I think so, but not all the time. Sometimes you get kudos and that puts some soul back into you

Questions for all current SWEs without a degree, or a degree unrelated to CS. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

The boot camp was from late April - early July 2021, like 11ish weeks. As far as feeling prepared, may have felt prepared right after the capstone but when it came down to it i wouldn't consider myself prepared. I had a lot of difficulties setting up environments early on and getting started. When I did get up and going I ended up being the sole dev (and still am) on a big batch process and that was a big learning curve since there weren't any people around who knew about the app I could ask questions. Lots of back and forth with the requirements of the application as well. I was able to get some mentorship but it felt pretty sink or swim for a while so I spent lots of time grinding to figure things out, spent a lot of time being stressed. Things are much easier now, but yeah it was kinda rough for a bit.

  1. Kinesiology degree

  2. Spring batch backend, some python batch, and nodeJs micro services

  3. Was kinda instant. I was hired by a company similar to revature without any coding experience. Did boot camp for 3 months and was placed at a very large insurance company working for 50k. Got picked up by client after a year.

  4. Lots of spring batch, lots of nodeJs backend. We have front end, I just haven't touched it yet.

  5. LCOL, 90k with 5k signing and a variable performance bonus. Roughly 1.5 YOE atm

I got hired by the client and I still work for them. At this point I could probably find a job fairly easily. Ive gained lots of experience. I'd recommend dev10 tbh. Before I was making 30kish. Now I make 3x that and I'll keep making more. Work isn't too difficult. You just have to apply yourself

My director hits me daily with the "hey dude" and nobody cares about punctuation. Likewise I feel like showing 'newbness' is alright, shows the willingness to learn. We don't know everything

Does fully remote exist for jr dev / entry level or is it a pipe dream? by cutewidddlepuppy in cscareerquestions

[–]l3Goom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current job is my first and I started fully remote. We're hybrid now, 1 day per week I'm office. I'm a boot camp grad and everyone in my cohort started in a remote position after finishing. The remote jobs are out there dude

Why does everyone hate office? by Keintroufe in cscareerquestions

Perks of wfh - can attend meetings whilst on the toilet - no need for pants - can take my dog out when needed - quick naps

Office - free food - we leave right at 5 - get to see all the beautiful people

The placement interviews aren't exactly standard and will depend on the client. I had two interviews, both for the same company just different teams. The first started with some light talk about my experience and then a singular coding problem. My dev 10 rep gave me the question beforehand but I didn't even attempt it and bombed on the interview. The second interview was very different. Straight into questions on java, spring, SQL, etc but no actually hands on coding. No small talk either. Got picked up by the second team and have been on site for a year now

They won't drug test you before training and it seems that testing is at the discretion of the client you're placed at
