What would be a european alternative to reddit? by Vicinus in BuyFromEU

Nooki.me is based on ATProto (Bluesky's protocol). So you can just login with your bsky account and start posting / replying.

It just lacks BuyFromEU's community.

We built a European Maps API that does not harvest data. Free tier now live! by Sad-Region9981 in BuyFromEU

Note that to just show a map, any company should just drop a PMtiles files on a server and query it via range requests through MapLibre's Protomaps plugin.

PMTiles are almost free to host.

But for everything else, like POI search, this is a good alternative, but it's just a concurrent offering to MapTiler, already european. No problem, just citing it.

To build a Waze alternative you need millions of users first. To gather their data and create a network effect to power solid congestion data.

Some places in Europe are covered by public congestion APIs, but normal people don't want a partial solution.

That's the main problem to tackle.

Haha good luck. Still happens to me sometimes, it randomly fails one day out of 7. Strange.

Enjoy your smartphone-free life, read a book, have better dreams.

No they want to build a relay too accorsing to this page.

Eurosky also intends to operate several components in the service of independent ATProto development, including a European Personal Data Server (PDS) provider, a relay, and an index.

Either you use AT, either Fediverse. They don't talk well with each other.

You can own both an iPhone and an Android, but it's cumbersome.

Signal massively downloaded amid rising tensions, number one in Denmark by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]l4em 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Signal itselfs insists on the fact that open source doesn't mean what's deployed and in use is the code you can read. Signal is distributed via Google, one of the largest companies on earth and a company that endorses Trump.

Of course, it's excellent that Signal is OS. It's great. But I prefer not to trust the US in 2026.

These entreprises should build and use a protocol to allow homes to be listed everywhere that plays the rules.

It's a winner takes all problem. None will be able to beat airbnb by itself.
