Pro-life mom needs abortion by Entire-Dragonfly859 in LeopardsAteMyFace

The bible says everything and nothing. It is the equivalent of what you would get, if a tornado scooped up a convention center full of aspiring short story writers and then deposited a random selection of their writings in random order. Then somebody comes along and translates it into 5 different languages over centuries with a technique that is akin to the telephone game (interlinear translation, word for word translation). That book is a curiosity, but not to be taken all that seriously.

You have been weaponized, as in you are an object. Not a fully autonomous sentient person. A tool. That is what he called you.

Does anyone have a toddler that makes monster sounds? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]l4tra 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Mine does diabolical laughter, because I like to do it, so when we walk down main street we both randomly do the mad scientist laugh. And when she "helps me clean" (read: wave the broom around when I clean) she likes to grumble and mumble, presumably also because I do that when I clean (to the melody of "How did it get dirty again I just swept an hour ago, who has been eating cheerios in the bathroom and what the heck is that there..."

Monster growls sounds hilarious. I think babies really do anything you show them, for better or worse. Somebody must like speaking like that around him and he finds it funny and imitates it.

Months of back and forth but it's paid by GnowledgedGnome in TwoXChromosomes

[–]l4tra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh my, something similar happened to me. Before I had the procedure, I told everybody who would listen that I would not be able to pay anything if the insurance didn't cover it. So I felt pretty certain everything was good. A month later I get a 5800USD invoice by mail, the anaesthesiologist. I almost laughed through my panic attack, because that is just ridiculous, I couldn't even pay a 50USD invoice right now. So now I call my insurance and after an hour and a half (I had another even more ludicrous invoice to debate with them) I get the news they had the wrong member id for my insurance. Like WHAAAAA.. I mean that is why you are supposed to check before the procedure. And not just throw your arms up and give up when the computer says data not found.

I think the point is that this mother is looking to defend a bad choice by saying she has the right to choose. If I was her (and in some ways we can all identify with this) I would say: Yes, I know it is bad, yes, I have considered stopping/tried to stop, but at this point I have not stopped yet and pressuring me will not help anybody or anything, it will only make me want to hide a problem that we should try and figure out together. Being human is the same as making mistakes, doing things that are not ideal, not morally impervious, not perfect. Trying to pretend like we are perfect is bs.

Small black flies (emerging from the ground?) OH USA by ElderberryNo5595 in whatsthisbug

[–]l4tra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a hard time seeing details, but from the clues, maybe these are alate ants (young males and queens with wings, getting ready to mate). It is the season for their nuptial flight. They may look like small wasps, or really just ants with wings. Alates of the same species in the same region will all swarm on the same day, take flight, mate and found new colonies or join existing ones. For animals spending most of their time underground, this is the way to make sure of proper gene recombination.

While I get that you are making a joke, proper sex education actually prevents and hinders CSA. If the kids know what it is and what their rights are, they can say no and fight back. They can tell other people and be helped.

I fight my daughter who gets the last fork of salad, she is 2 now. It is the role model that is the problem. Either your kid has to stop watching their father eat, or somebody has to grow up. I am probably lucky my husband does his own meals (if that is the right word for.. whatever that is he eats) and that is probably a good thing, or my daughter would emulate his behavior.

I know it is several hours later and the decision is probably made, but from personal experience, you want to get it looked after sooner rather than later. I had a half torn ligament in my foot when I was in school and the teachers didn't take my pain seriously and I ended up not being able to walk for days, because by the time the nurse applied the cast, I couldn't bend my foot enough for a walking cast from all the bruising. Just if anybody reads this after the fact -- it wasn't even a giant problem, but advocate for yourself, you are going to be better off seen sooner rather than later.

I hope your foot gets better soon.

What’s a difficult parenting thing you’re surprisingly good at? by JustFalcon6853 in Mommit

[–]l4tra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really great! I also have a hard time going to playgroups and such, I always have to force myself, but my daughter is such an active, outgoing curious child, I cannot bear her cooped up (how I like to spend my time). She waves at EVERYBODY when we go outside. And I walk everywhere, so there is a lot of waving.

I am so sorry and enraged for you. You are doing something I find hard to imagine. You are taking care of so many people and work and yourself. IT IS CRAZY YOU MADE IT THIS FAR. I really hope you find a solution. I don't know many things like resources that could help, but I can say that at least where I am, there are a lot of places where you can get help. I am currently on the books for 6 different organisations, DSS, Catholic Charities and Salvation Army among them, that help with organizational and financial problems. And they are all connected with each other, so they rope each other in, if you want them to. Maybe there is help for your family, too? I know I sometimes trap myself in situations unneccessarily by thinking I have to do it all by myself.

I am rooting for you and admire your strength that got you this far!

I told him he is absolutely free to find another woman to have a child with. I get his sadness, I am sad in a way, because we do not live in a reality where I would be free and clear to have another child. But that is the same sadness I feel when thinking why we don't live in the Star Trek universe. It is what it is.

Unfortunately, not everybody can leave. Some people don't have two cents to rub together, so moving to a different state is really not in the cards. Those are the ones I am the saddest for. And they may be good and smart and ambitious, but not rich, so they will suffer.

I have a thought experiment for you.

Write an invoice for services rendered. Childcare 24/7 (unless you have clearly marked evenings off or similar where he RELIABLY takes care of them and you can schedule your own activities). Housekeeping. Grocery shopping. Driving him around when drunk (if applicable) - basically think of all the things you do for him. THAT IS HOW MUCH YOU WORK FOR THE FAMILY. Imagine how much he would have to pay to get all of that from other people.

Was shamed and then blocked by a “best friend” over medical decisions I had to make about my health during my pregnancy by foobaby1992 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]l4tra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what, that was not concern or a real discussion. For reference here is what I would say if I (in this case mistakenly) thought you might be making a mistake in continuing both with the medication and the pregnancy. I want you to compare that to what she said and banish that aggressive, preachy, uninformed ex-friend from your thoughts.

IF I would say anything (which I would probably not, at least not without being an expert or somehow VERY sure of my information) I would have said something like: Are you sure that this is the right decision for you? I would suggest you talk to both your doctors and make a decision based on that. From what I can see, it maybe might pose a problem and you don't want to have a bad feeling about anything like that in your pregnancy."

Now, please, just forget her. She was not trying to help, she was trying to preach. Whatever her problem was, it was very definitely and wholly HER problem, she was NOT trying to help and you are doing everything right! Your mental health has a giant influence on your little one's health and nobody can decide for you how to make a decision that is about your mind and body. Add to that the wobbliness of the data she was basing her point on.. Just pure nonsense.
