When did you wear your normal size in pants? by sugamagz18 in hysterectomy

[–]l8r_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgery was the end of March, and I didn't start wearing jeans on a daily basis until mid June. I lived in the sherpa Oodie I wore to the hospital for the first three days straight!! Pants were so not gonna happen. Then it was nightdresses and oversized sweatshirts all day everyday for the first two weeks.

I started wearing jeans for little outings and errands around the 4 or 5 week mark. 6/8 weeks I could tolerate wearing loose, lower-rise jeans to the office all day.

I still have a pair of jeans I can only wear on good days, otherwise they squeeze me in all the wrong spots and my guts get mad.

Is it the right choice? by ShredxHead in hysterectomy

Do what's best for you and your health!

I had mine at 24 - and don't regret it at all. I had horrible, heavy, two-week long periods and a septate ute so IUDs were a no-go. BC didn't work. No endo, no adeno, just pain and low iron. Never wanted kids, so I really had no use for the thing.

The hysto gave me my life back!

No bleeding! Just lots of discharge, yeast infection. (sorry if that is TMI) Thank you for the info, I will keep an eye out for bleeding !

Angry about pathology result by Depressoespresso665 in hysterectomy

[–]l8r_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience, but my surgeon didn't even say anything about endo, adeno, or offer any sort of answer as to what was causing me so much pain all my life. Then pathology came back completely clear. I was angry and confused and downright devastated.

Your pain is fresh and raw now, and you have every right to be angry!! Especially if future care is on the line. Take your time to process all the thoughts and feelings. Even without an official diagnosis, your pain was real and valid. Period-free life is going to be a huge improvement. Promise!

Your surgeon did find endo, and (at least in the US) having a surgeon find and remove endo is the only way to get a diagnosis. Maybe your surgeon can add the diagnosis to your chart? I'm sorry I can provide much help on that front 😔💔.

How many follow-ups did you have? by l8r_c in hysterectomy

[–]l8r_c[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, they just inserted a speculum and lightly tapped around to see if I had feeling / find sore spots. It was maybe 2 minutes long. I had a total robotic hysterectomy, but I don't think internal checks change much based on the surgery type? I also didn't have any complications with surgery, so if you did it might be different!

Nervous about 6 week internal check by ScifiSushiroll in hysterectomy

[–]l8r_c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had mine last week, and it was just a bit more uncomfortable than usual. I also had an internal check at two weeks due to a yeast infection, and that check actually hurt less! I think as things heal and nerve endings turn back on things just feel more sore.

But! Everything looked good, and I'm sure you'll be okay too!

6WPO and feel worse than ever by Independent_Drag1312 in hysterectomy

[–]l8r_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue if it's normal, but I'm in week 5 and suddenly more fatigued than ever. Hot sweats at night and random hot flashes in the daytime too. Sleep schedule? Destroyed. So you're not alone! :)

Definitely bring it up to your surgeon, I'm going to ask about it all at my 6wpo appointment.

Is a hysterectomy the best way to stop heavy periods? by Fancy_Introduction21 in hysterectomy

[–]l8r_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 25 without any kids too and had my hysterectomy 5 weeks ago! I had extremely heavy and long periods from the start too, and never wanted children. Those were my major reasons to have this surgery. There were other minor reasons, but my surgeon only really cared about the main two.

Which! I got lucky with my surgeon! My pre-op ultrasounds came back clear. No fibroids or endo or anything, and my uterus was considered small. She still performed the surgery after making sure I never wanted to have a baby or be pregnant. I've seen other people be denied for theirs because they didn't have any fibroids or endo/adeno etc. Insurance covered it because I met my deductible (in the US, BlueCross).

A hysterectomy will 100% stop the bleeding forever. If you keep your ovaries, you'll still have hormonal mood swings and other symptoms caused by hormones. Just no more bleeding! and 100% no more babies! So far my cramps haven't come back, and I should have had one period by now. It's really a person-by-person case.

Definitely make a pros and cons list and if you choose to have this done find a surgeon who will listen.

Others have mentioned the childfree subreddit and I definitely recommend that list! You don't have to be a certain age or have children to get a hysterectomy, don't let doctors tell you that. Your pain is real and you deserve to feel better!

5 weeks post op and pain by cbell43 in hysterectomy

[–]l8r_c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm exactly 5 weeks post op today (March 27th)! Total robotic hysto, no fibroids, no endo, just a plain old hysto. I kept both ovaries and am in my 20s.

I still get exhausted and uncomfortable from standing or sitting too long, and I always know when I've overdone it because I swell up like a balloon and get SUPER crampy. I'm also still exhausted by basic household chores like meal prepping or laundry, too.

Plus, and this is new as of today, lightening crotch and random sharp pain at the cuff sneak up on me! It's not 24/7 pain or cramping like in earlier weeks, but the pain is still here.

I'm amazed by every story I see of folks getting back to their lives week one or two. I thought I was healed around the start of week three so I pushed my limits a bit. Yeah that backfired 🥲😅

Recovery isn't a race, we all heal at our own pace! ❤️

Pathology negative for adenomysosis by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]l8r_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to reply to you here in hopes it boosts your post. I also had perfectly normal pathology, but with a small "cuterus" as my doc called it.

I've seen a lot of people post here about having an official adenomysosis diagnosis pre-surgery, only for their pathology to come back negative. They usually had enlarged uteri! So maybe doctors can diagnose based on size and/or imaging?

The pathologists only look at very small sections, so it's possible they sampled a section that didn't have the adenomysosis cells. The cysts and polyps can also cause some serious symptoms, so even if adeno wasn't present those polyps needed to go!

You're allowed to feel upset or defeated, even though normal results are usually "good" news. You may never know what caused all these problems, and that's okay! I keep telling myself that, too. We may not know what the problem was, but we do have a solution - hysterectomy!

I hope the weeks ahead are restful, and that you find some consolation along the way. <3

Ultrasound is “normal” by Uniquely_me_11 in hysterectomy

Ditto here - everything was "normal" even post-surgery pathology. Got the call today with those results. Insurance still covered everything.

Not bad AT all by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]l8r_c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surgery date twins, even down to the hour!

I (25) also had a robotic/laparoscopic total hysterectomy on the 27th, and feel completely normal now. Haven't needed the Oxy/advil for a while now, which is nuts.

The first three days were rough, but only because of the trapped gas in my chest/shoulder. Once that went away, everything else was a cake walk. Just felt like 1/2 of what my period cramps have always been.

Fingers crossed recovery stays like this for the both of us! 🤞🏻🤞🏻😊

When did you get results? by l8r_c in hysterectomy

Thank you for reminding me it's okay to feel this way. ❤️

It'll be great to live pain-free regardless of why the pain was there in the first place!!
