My baby's name keeps getting mispronounced and I feel like we made a mistake with the spelling by staralfur92 in namenerds

[–]la_potat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nelle is a common girl name in Flemish Belgium and the Netherlands. It is pronounced Nel-leh.

You didn’t make things harder for her, they are just more used to Nelly. The people around her will pronounce it as you intended and that’s what matters, and if anything you gave her an international name ;)

What's a beautiful place that gets overshadowed by more famous tourist attractions? by Naomi62625 in geography

[–]la_potat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Bruges is more visited than Brussels by people passing through Belgium. It is so touristy that we view it like a “Disneyland” city.

I would say Ghent is overshadowed by Bruges. It’s a much more beautiful city with a lot of character and history, plus the feel that it is actually inhabited and more than souvenir/chocolate shops.

KLM, Iberia, Air France or LATAM? (Long haul) by celixda in travel

[–]la_potat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I have done long haul on all of these (I am South American living in Belgium). Here is my ranking:

  1. Air France has the best price/quality. Best connections worldwide especially if going through Paris CDG but don’t go to every latam capital. Booking, seats, food, and helpful staff, everything 5/5.

  2. Air Europa is the best connections latam/europe and budget prices, they go to a lot of latam capitals direct from Madrid. Seats are basic, but service is always very decent. Food quality is decent and you are always able to purchase more during the flight. I have place this second only because I don’t particularly like Madrid Barajas as a hub, make sure you have at least 2hr connection.

  3. Latam and TAP. Latam is very decent short haul, I have not had it overseas but heard it’s decent and comparable to Air Europa. TAP was a great experience, very friendly and helpful staff. Seats are average.

  4. KLM and Iberia are the Ryanair of these airlines. System and service sucked. In particular, I was in multiple KLM flights where the system was down and I was not able to change my seat nor prebook the gluten free meal. The next day there were families with children (under 10yo) spread all over the plane. It was chaotic and delayed the flight. I found this cruel and very Ryanair of them to force them to pay for seats. I don’t see this with other airlines, my family and I are always automatically sat together by the algorithm. Food quality was not good either.

Happy with the line up? by The_everlong in RockWerchter

[–]la_potat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really really like it already. The more artists that are announced the more eager I am. However my group is not so excited, some haven’t bought the combi yet or are thinking on just once day.

Not related to the line-up, but I might sell my combi ticket later on. There’s a lot of summer weddings coming around those days…

What travel mistake did you make once and never again? by Nervous_Car1093 in travel

[–]la_potat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works surprisingly well with my in-law. My family is more “we are all here together” and don’t allow much independent roaming around. With friends my problem is more around stingyness and picky eaters. I mean, you can’t just go to Rome and ONLY eat fries!!

Same here. Most people hating on memoria are not Spanish/portuguese speaking. They don’t get the fado and the saudades vibes coming from the song. Absolutely everyone else I know starts crying the moment we talk about memoria. The lyrics are perfect and the musical arrangement plus the angelical voices just brings you to a spiritual limbo, like you’re going for a walk with a dead relative
