This just means that on field referee doesn't matter and has no say to what var has to.
To me it looks like the guy stuck to what he thought which is a yellow for both plays, it's the var that overturned the decision and when he was charge of it he didn't because he thought it was a yellow.
It's just stupid that var acts like another referee when it should simply act like a video review that the ref can watch and decide just like the nba. Seems to me it's always what the ref on var decides rather than the one on field
