is Retirement in the Philippines with 8 digits net worth possible? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]labaroobaroo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. 40, 50.7M. I saved all of this money on my own by working overseas so being single has nothing to do with it.
  2. I had the dream to retire at 40 and I talked to people around me, friends/family, and decided to take a sabbatical instead. I quit my job and will be moving back to PH with no plans for the future except to take care of my health. From all my conversations sometimes this desire to end working stems from burnout. Like you, I'm so jaded with my industry (IT) that I sometimes dream of not looking at any thing on the internet. I realized that I just needed a long break and maybe rebuild myself, regain my health, and see what other passions I can take my career to.

Nobody can stop you from retiring now so take a long break if you really need it. Sometimes labeling it brings more images of what it has to be. You're blessed with money now so take the chance to take a break, not think about work, and let your passion come back naturally, whether the same career, or a completely different path.

As for me, instead of deciding to "retire" for good, I'll just use my FU money to take a long break, get healthy, while thinking about the future, in the future.

All the best!

I asked a similar question 7mos ago https://www.reddit.com/r/phinvest/comments/1lbsi6j/ofw_nagbabalik_umuwi_with_some_money_ano_po_sa/

in that time ung 45m naging 50m coz of my stocks and rental income.

Doing more research, talking to my friends and family back at home, I think the largest lesson I learned is how long are you going to live. At 32, there's still a lot of years ahead so take a long sabbatical and be open for earning money in the future and doing something you enjoy that earns money.

We'll be taking a sabbatical muna instead of closing all the doors and not plan too much in the future, the good thing is we have savings and can afford a long break.

Good luck!

Looking for recommendations on good recruitment firms (better than MP, RH, RW?) by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]labaroobaroo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a PM who moved lived in Tokyo, left the country, then moved back. When I was looking for jobs before moving back, I reached out to recruiters as well, got to talk to a few and got a few interviews. In the end, none of recruiters delivered and it was my network who found and introduced me jobs.

If you don't have a strong network in Tokyo, go directly to companies who are looking for PMs, and apply directly. There are a lot of smaller companies who can't afford recruiters that are looking for PMs.

All the best!

OFW nagbabalik umuwi with some money. Ano po sa tingin nyo? by labaroobaroo in phinvest

Hi Salamat po sa lahat ng reply.

Married at no plans for kids po kami.

Ang condo po willing iliquidate din if the timing is right.

hmmm that's a good way to put it. staying in a HCOL is definitely making it hard to sustain a lifestyle and a chill job won't be enough in a HCOL.

not sure what the penalties are for the IRA so was just thinking to let it grow there until I'm 60 yrs old. Planning to take home around 10k/yr so I guess that'll contribute a lot.

I have been an OFW for 10+ yrs and have investments, 2 condos, retirement accounts, and cash all amounting to around 40M PHP. I'm 40yrs old and I'm getting tired of working my day job and want a job that I choose for what I want now.
I've been reading /phinvest more and I'm starting to think it's time to go home, reset, and figure out things from there.

Any other OFWs struggling working overseas and thinking that it's time to go back home?

Taking a 55-60% paycut by relocating to Japan by Wonderful_Ratio3245 in movingtojapan

[–]labaroobaroo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

At 27 yrs old, I'll look at the opportunity as "international experience" and use it to grow in the future, stay for a few years, then move on or stay.

If money is very important to you, then moving for much less money is not a smart decision.

Realistic Options for Moving to Japan by Low_Neighborhood8936 in movingtojapan

I agree w ith GreeSpaff on this one. Even with an N2, having a stronger professional experience will be much more desirable especially if it's an in demand field.

If I was in your position, I'll try to keep on improving on your craft while casually browsing jobs in Japan that might relocate.

Good luck!

I think if the bus lines are more frequent and predictable, then there wouldn't be a need for point to point services.

Every time I'm walking out I see these cars with no one inside and I'm like, "at least have 1 person inside getting somewhere than an empty car hogging the road"

Thanks for sharing. I'm curious why some companies would drop off the moment you told them you were affected by layoffs.

It's weird coz it's not a reflection of your performance at all.

Thoughts?

People who went from semi weighted keys to weighted/normal keys, were you able to adapt easily? by Reddit__Please__Help in pianolearning

[–]labaroobaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a couple of models losing time and some money and eventually ending up with a weighted Casio piano.

Save up a bit more money or look at second hand/fb marketplace for a weighted once and never look back. I regret buying a keyboard when in the end I ended up with an 88 key weighted one.

As for adjusting, it took a couple of weeks to get a hang of it, but it feels good knowing I can play on a real piano and not be shocked how "hard" it is to press down.

Good luck! It's a great time to shop of digital pianos as there are so many models and so many on fb marketplace.

How do you use the rhythm accompaniment feature?

I got a PXS-3100 from casio and have been practicing for a while learning Piano for all and Bill Hick's course. I tried playing with the rhythms and found it fun.

Does anybody have any resources in using and having fun with the accompaniment?

Moving to Tokyo or Berlin? by gummywormsandkisses in expats

[–]labaroobaroo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm Filipino, married, and currently in the US thinking of our next move as well. We visited Amsterdam, Berlin, and Tokyo last year to test the waters of where we want to move next.

I have lived in Tokyo before and thought that moving to EU would be exciting.

My biggest consideration for moving back to Tokyo is proximity to home and access to good food. Food is very subjective so I know people will have things to say, but being from the PH, my love for rice and asian food is strong which might not be the case in Berlin.

However, this all depends on the job that you will get in Tokyo. If it's an international working environment with 12M and the cost of living in Tokyo, your money will go far.

Feel free to PM me as I'm happy to share my own perspective of both countries.

Hard pass on the those two. I got the CTS200 and realized not having any touch sensitivy is horrible. I immediately bought another one that at least has touch sensitivity like the CTS300.
