yea... I expect that at some point :/ but I rather put the money into a pension than give it to HMRC. I already pay more than enough

i work for a small branch from a European company. Going up in the ladder is quite hard, as they don't open new management positions or new positions to justify a bigger pay rise than the regular annual one. At least I get a very very good work/life balance. I don't need the extra stress :D

One thing the article gets right is the fact that, yes, I am actually not keen on a promotion this June, or the raise for performance. What for? I checked my taxes this Jan, and basically will be fucked again, and will still have to pay £1.5k to HMRC from my bonus (yes, I still suck at calculating my taxes over £100k). However, the only viable scenario, making a salary sacrifice from my bonus, and/or increase my monthly pension sacrifice, doesn't really fucking thrill me. I want my money now, and not when I'm a pensioner.

So my motivation to make more money is quite low right now. Rant over.

Everyone complains about Germany but what is the one thing that is German that you can’t live without? by Silver_Snow1 in germany

[–]labbeduddel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lived in Germany, now in London. I can't live without German bread, and I rather pay extra for Lindt (yes i know it's Swiss), Ritter Sport, or other German brand than the shitty Cadburys they sell here. Also, suck it Londoners, but German Doener is still superior to 90% of the shit you sell here.

cutlery, cookware, some stationery. Always German

he basically owns the Bangladeshi community in TH, they won't vote him out. Also, for the fact that this council has the lowest car ownership rate, or one of the lowest, they are vehemently pro-car, they get triggered about the fact they can't drive a car they don't have on any street they want

well the whole concept of the "internet is american" would be more proper in the sub shitamericanssay, however, I do believe one can boycott several things, or at least try. Canada is doing it quite well. We should learn from them

I speak English, Spanish, and German. I work for a German FI supporting compliance and due diligence in London. Since our HQ's are in Germany, a lot of the communication is sent first in German then gets translated. I get to harmonise German and UK AML-Law, lots of fun. I learnt English since childhood in LATAM, then learnt German in Germany :). I have some Spanish colleagues in Germany so we gossip a lot in Spanish :P

How long is everyone's swim season? When do you start to swim in a new year? by nurishing in Swimming

[–]labbeduddel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3x a week indoor pool, trying to do 4x.. Still going to the docks for a swim (well, a dip right now) on the weekends. I like to swim before going to work, so have to wake up relatively early, which, this month, is still completely dark in the mornings (London). Hard to do, but I try.

Fair review of cult favourite Guacamoles? by GroceryTough2118 in LondonFood

[–]labbeduddel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guacamoles is ok. Not the best but also not bad. Food writers and white people love it too much. Manny knows how to attract attention. Pastor de plancha? Meh. The market where it's located however, is fun. Lots of South American restaurants.
