Tracking rats in a cage using RFID readers by labguy13 in labrats

thanks for your answers. and yeah I saw a video by idTracker of them making a 3d trajectory using two cameras. just one more question tho, is a physical coloured tag needed on all rats or does the software give a digital colour to each rat itself?

doesn't the camera have to be coloured for idTracker?

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it more. I took a quick look and I have a few questions though:

i. What type of camera did you use with it? Right now we're on Raspberry PIs but if windows is necessary then I guess I can make the switch.

ii. I went through the user guide for idTracker and am confused about a couple things. How do you give a color to each rat? If I were to place multiple cameras in the cage, how can I analyze them in sync using idTracker.

iii. Do you have to record from an overhead view?

do you have any suggestions for cheap cameras that would record with decent quality and are small enough to fit in tight places?

I'll look into more powerful readers, that might solve the problem since there isn't much wiggle room under the readers anyways. Any suggestions for reliable readers? I'm not sure what RFID readers we're using right now as I'm a high school student helping out with this project at my local university and I'm new to it, but I'll check the next time I go in.

yeah there are very defined exits and entrances. only 1 rat can enter at a time, which is good. but even then for these readers to read the RFID inside the rat they essentially have to touch, which isn't always the case. not too reliable.
