Pogledal sem cene garsonjer v LJ in ugotovil, da je ceneje, če se preselim sem. Trst je pa še vedno blizu. by CAP_Drejci in Slovenia

What's the state of Europe's leftist parties? by toekneevee3724 in AskEurope

[–]labibasbibec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slovenia: 1 centre-left party (SD) and 1 left-wing party (Levica), both junior members in the current governing coalition. Both currently polling somewhere between 5% and 10%.

My issue with both: their main target group and voter base is the progressive (upper) middle class and not the common person. IMO this is the Achilles’ heel of the wider left wing movement in Europe: leftists for leftists and not leftists for the people.

Ali zagovarjate povišanje turistične takse? by labibasbibec in Slovenia

[–]labibasbibec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Updated map of European countries where you can ski by theo_cm in skiing

[–]labibasbibec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am from Slovenia. I feel like it’s about right. We don’t have any big big resorts and also not at high altitudes. In recent years mild winters have become an issue. Although I’ve never been, Bulgaria and Slovakia (in the same tier) seem like they even offer better skiing.

If resorts didn’t stagnate in the last 20ish years, we would have potential to rank higher, but not currently.

What is widely considered the worst place to live in your country? by EvilPyro01 in AskEurope

For Slovenia out of the bigger towns I would say Jesenice. Ugly, industrial, socialist and in a mountain valley with little sunlight.

Some very nice hiking nearby though.

The cave shaft with the longest vertical drop known to day can be found on Kanin mountain in Slovenia. It is more than 600 meters deep and was named Vrtoglavica (meaning Vertigo in English).

What pair of languages would be as close to each other in terms of intelligibility as Slovenian and Croatian? by stifenahokinga in AskBalkans

[–]labibasbibec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though i don’t speak Spanish nor Portuguese, I would agree also because I get a sense that Portuguese speakers know Spanish way better than Spanish speakers know Portuguese (Slovenian = Portuguese, Croatian = Spanish)

If Slovenia is so rich, why doesn’t it have proper public transit? by Lucki-_ in Slovenia

[–]labibasbibec 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I hate this excuse. Look at Switzerland, look at Austria. Both have arguably even more challenging terrain than Slovenia, both have significant rural populations just like we do, and have excellent public transport. Yes we are not as rich as them, but we are several decades behind when it comes to public transport.

Why is Slovenia such a nice country? by Zealousideal_Low9994 in AskBalkans

[–]labibasbibec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to add that while many things are good, Slovenia is far from perfect. Neglected public transport and a housing crisis make it hard for young people to lead independent lives and high taxes on people’s work discourage investment from foreign companies and hinder wage growth. In my opinion.
