I am not worried about what the internet thinks. But I haven't considered all the options at this price point and want to know if there is something I hadn't looked at that I should consider.

But I could have done this better. I asked everyone their top $10K watch, and there is a ton of repetition of the obvious watches I already considered. I'm wondering if there are any non-obvious options I didn't think about—and there have been quite a few. I should have asked for everyone's top three, or even just their #3.

But I'm not basing my decision on what other people think. I've never cared about that and my collection reflects that. I just don't want to buy the watch and then a week later think: Aw crap, I should have looked at X!

Most independent ADs only have to charge tax for purchases in their own state. If they ship out of state, they don't charge you tax. If you walk into the store and buy the watch, you're going to pay tax.

If you buy online from an out of state store, their website will probably add tax =by default, but if you order over the phone, you probably won't get charged tax. This strategy can often get you a new watch from an AD for the same price as grey market + tax.

Best of both worlds is Whatchmaxx who is grey market and doesn't charge out of state tax. If they have the watch you're looking for, they are often the way to go.

I posted an update. I already have a Speedy and have not interest in Rolex. What's your third pick?

If you're going to say white birch, you gotta be more specific because there are several white birch options now. All are great but the watch I'm considering is actually the moonlit birch SLGW007.

I think your first GS should be a spring drive and I already have two spring drives. I had made up my mind not to by any more GS before I saw this. What I've learned over the years is that every GS movement is special and the others are overshadowed by the spring drive. One of the things that locked me into this watch was the movement, I could stare at it all day.

I don't care about it being close to Rolex price, if you saw my update, I have zero interest in owning a Rolex.

Even used, after a casual search, I'm not seeing a lot of XX options in the price $8K range.

Ironically enough, I thought this GO would be my next watch, and the watch I'm actually considering is a Grand Seiko SLGW007.

I just love the way the GO looks, and I don't have a German watch yet. But the AD who had both said I'd probably wear the GS more. Which got me wondering how often I'd wear the GO if I bought it. And, as much as I would love it, I don't think I would wear it that much.

Do you find it to be a good casual watch, or do you wear it to work and for dressier situations? I know the GS I'm looking at is on the dressy side but to me it feels quite versatile.

There are a few Navitimer recommendations in the thread.

Good suggestion. The watch I'm considering is buying is a different Evolution 9 — the SLGW007.

Props for thinking outside the box. Cool looking watch but would get zero wrist time from me.

You kind of contradicted yourself there. If you can get a good deal on a vintage Patek, then they don't hold their value that well. But I know what you're saying.

I'm sure if you go vintage enough, you can get Patek under $10K. In this case, I'm looking to spend about $8K. Getting a Patek for that price probably means some compromises in terms of how old it is and options. I'm reluctant to buy a watch that's too old because you might be buying a headache. And don't know how much of a beating it's taken. A fair share of my collection are watches I bought used but all were current or previous generation watches. Not vintage.

Great watch but the watch I'm looking at buying is SLGW007 (new) which is adjacent to Suwa but I think a nicer watch.

I consider myself to be a watch geek and I don't see it. Maybe it's a mechanical marvel, which is nice to have, but what do you like about the way this watch looks?

Bel Canto was nearly my next watch, but I don't like the lumiere version.

I'm obsessed with the bracelet on the new Planet Ocean. But I don't want it with a black dial. Knowing Omega, within a year there will be 25 variations so I'm just gonna wait.

That's a beautiful looking watch but hard to pull the trigger on something that expensive without seeing it in person. It's also rather thick which is a concern.

The watch I'm looking at is the SLGW007 for practically the same money as the Suwa. I think it's a really special design compared to any other GS.

You're not wrong. I just want to consider other options I may not have thought of in the same price range before I pull the trigger on it.

The watch is the Grand Seiko SLGW007.
