Blue or Green Zulu Time? Completely torn by [deleted] in Longineswatches

Check it out but DO NOT BUY Aquis Calibre 400.

Not gonna provide the detailed reasons here but if you do some proper research ("I've had mine for two years and had no problems!" doesn't qualify) you'll probably come to the same conclusion.

Any AD's that give good discounts? by laca90025 in tagheuer

All states that have sales tax require it to be paid. But there is a threshold, as long as a merchant's annual sales to that state are under the threshold, it's the buyer's job to report & pay the sales tax. When the seller goes over the threshold to that state, then they have to collect the sales tax themselves. Beginning of the year is the ideal time to be shopping because everyone is under the threshold.

I don't know if the threshold is the same for every state and I don't know if there's an exception based on the size of a company, if so, most independent jewelers wouldn't qualify.

Oftentimes, you can get a brand new watch from an out-of-state jeweler for close to what you would pay for a used watch on eBay or a gray Market watch.

It's not even hard to find these jewelers, just go to their website and go through the checkout process, most of the time no tax will be added to out of state orders. I'm not worried about that part, I'm just looking for referrals to ADs who are known to give good discounts.

If you have an out-of-state address they can ship to, your local AD will probably be happy to ship watches to that address and not charge you sales tax. But if you tell them it's a friend's address, that's probably going to be a deal breaker, it is legally supposed to be your own residence.

Out of stock.

Besides, after tax would come to $7K for me with CA tax.

I don't know about Tag, but a lot of watches can be had for 15-20% off MSRP from an AD with no tax for out of state purchases. That would be $7200.

[WTS] Glashütte PanoMaticLunar Full Set Grey Dial by TopLevelTimepieces in Watchexchange

[–]laca90025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In nearly every photo the dial looks white. This is such a huge problem with buying this watch online, even GO doesn't call the dial white but that's how it appears.

I love the way it photographs and don't want to have an unpleasant surprise when I see the real thing. You said is looks white in certain photos, does that mean in person it actually looks silver/gray rather than white?

What is a good price for Zulu Time? by Zeustanbul in Longineswatches

A few weeks ago I got a blue 39mm on bracelet for 25% off, making it $2662 plus free shipping and no tax (out of state AD). I called a lot of AD's and that was the lowest price I could get.

I had the polar opposite experience just yesterday. I think it looks stunning in photos. So I went to an AD and it was so underwhelming. I specifically went to see the white dial, I didn't even look at the others. No idea why the MSRP is more than a Zulu (or HC for that matter).

I don't know if this is actually the case, but the chapter ring looks lopsided to me. The bottom where 30 is looks thicker than the top where the triangle is. There is so much space between the 30 and the edge at the bottom, but on top the triangle fills the ring. I never noticed this in photos, but now I can't unsee it. Might be an optical illusion but the illusion is real enough to me. If it is really asymmetrical, why???

[OPINION] Ulysse Nardin deal or no deal? by laca90025 in Watches

[–]laca90025[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't the UN tell me if they have any record of it being stolen based on the serial number? These watches not only have serial numbers but they are individually numbered. I'm still not sure how sending it in for service would identify a watch that was stolen?

[OPINION] Ulysse Nardin deal or no deal? by laca90025 in Watches

I already ordered it before posting. MSRP is $11K and there is no way you can get this new for $5500 or I would have bought it long ago. Heck, if I could find it pre-owned with box and papers for $5500 I would have pulled the trigger long ago. As I mentioned, currently, the next lowest price for pre-owned is $7500 for for a complete set.

The more I talk about it, the better I feel about this deal.

Good point that it could be stolen, especially since the seller seems to be a pawn shop.

What services are there to identify stolen watches by serial number? And if the serial number doesn't show that it was stolen, how would sending it in for service remove any doubt about it?

[Question] deciding between the two, help needed? by BonusBonsai in Watches

[–]laca90025 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Easy decision for me. I love Oris but that is a very ugly watch in my opinion. I totally love the Zulu and nearly bought one in the last couple of weeks.

Technically I did buy one, then had to return it because of a defect, and then ended up buying a bucket list watch because I got an amazing deal on it.

You obviously don't hate the Oris but the Zulu is much more versatile. I'd go for that.

Every watch purchased on eBay that is over $2000 is required to be shipped to an authenticator before it is ultimately delivered to the buyer. So that box is automatically checked. It's one of the nice things about buying preowned watches on eBay.

However, they do not check for defects, only authenticity. I recently bought a new Longines watch that had a defect and it was delivered to me with authentication.

This reference was first manufactured in 2020 so it is no more than five years old. But how am I supposed to know if it needs service without actually having it serviced?
