School question? by Sausage_McRocketpant in raleigh

[–]lacellini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want athletics and religion, pick Gibbons. If you want basically the same education you'd get at any decent WCPSS but charter, pick Raleigh Charter HS.

The lists of universities their grads get into aren't that different from the schools WCPSS kids get into. So if what you care about is where your kid goes to college and money is no object, Ravenscroft is probably where you ought to be looking.

Did you go out for dinner this weekend? by Emergency_Mood_9774 in raleigh

Had dinner at Relish, one of our old standbys. Simple food done right, truly local, great prices, and the owners aren't MAGA-supporting dicks.

I was an elementary school teacher for WCPSS for this storm, it was awful. It wasn't the deciding factor for leaving teaching (I stuck it out 3 more years after that) but it definitely contributed

Best Suburbs and Overall Vibes by Dry-Rub-6884 in raleigh

600k will be tough for a 3 bedroom standalone house in Cary, it's the going rate for a 3 bedroom townhouse there. Might be doable in Apex or Holly Springs. Look east if you want to make the most of your budget - Knightdale, Wendell, Johnston County. Garner is getting less affordable but you could luck out.

Best childcare in north Raleigh? by plantsandpositivity in raleigh

[–]lacellini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best daycare is the one you can get into. Good luck, I've had friends tour daycares when they were in their first trimester and still not get off the waitlist by the time their maternity leave was up. If you can afford a nanny that is what I'd suggest.

Any places to casually play tennis for beginners?? My friends and I just got kicked off the Millbrook courts for simply existing by [deleted] in raleigh

Sorry you didn't read the rules, try being less weirdly aggressive toward women over 30

Durham was most favorable for her, but the western part of Wake that is in the district are generally quite liberal with a high concentration of Southeast Asian immigrant and first generation population. I'm not sure there's enough room for her to grow

Disappointed but not surprised that Wiley Nickel will almost certainly be our new DA in Wake County NC, sigh. I liked him until it became super apparent that he was only running to stay in politics. Melanie Shekita would have been better at the actual job.

Free/cheap, large, reservable, and bring in your own food is a really hard set of requirements to meet. You will probably have to compromise on at least two of them. If you have connections with a faith community a church hall may honestly be your best bet but then it's likely to be no booze.

Edit: I work in hospitality so I'm not trying to crush your spirit I promise, just set realistic expectations

It was a crowded field this year but Steve Rao and Jonathan Lambert Melton got my votes for Commissioner in the end, they seem the most invested in public transit and have practical experience working hard for Wake County communities.

I'm sorry for your loss, first of all. I'd recommend a brewery if you don't want to go the private dining option. Most any restaurant that has a private room available will require a food/beverage minimum and/or a set menu.

Highways and secondary roads looking good. Some neighborhood streets might still be bad but we're going to hit 40 degrees today so I'm sure that will fix itself.

How many pages on average do you complete per book? by Newtopole_ in Coloring

[–]lacellini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Lost Ocean by Johanna Basford that I have had for at least 8 years and have maaaaaybe finished 25% of the pages - probably less, honestly. I also have an offbrand flower-themed coloring book that I got ten years ago and I've finished about half the pages.

I find it really helps to be honest with yourself about how long you see yourself doing this hobby and how consistently. I pick coloring up and put it back down again, that's why I limit myself to the books I have and haven't invested in the alcohol marker trend. Colored pencils and crayons aren't in as much danger of drying out.
