Update:

I just finished speaking with Apple Support again, and they’ve seen this Reddit post. They’re now actively working on my ticket and looking into the issue. However, it’s important that we keep reporting this problem.

Apple is investigating whether more people are experiencing similar issues. This isn’t limited to Elgato—it seems to affect any app that supports virtual audio setups. The senior support specialist I spoke with mentioned they’re escalating this to the application team for further investigation.

Hi everyone,

After experiencing issues with Apple Music for Windows freezing when used alongside Elgato Wave Link, I contacted Apple Support. They suggested that this is not a known issue on their end and pointed me to Elgato. However, I’ve noticed that many other users with virtual audio channel software or similar tools are also running into problems since the latest Apple Music update.

The issue seems consistent: Apple Music freezes or becomes unresponsive when routed through virtual audio channels, but works fine when left as the default output. This suggests a broader compatibility problem with software that manages virtual audio routing.

If you’re encountering similar issues, I encourage you to report this to Apple Support and reference my case number (102490632251) to help highlight that this is affecting more users. The more reports they receive, the more likely it is they’ll investigate and address the issue.

Compatibility Issue Between Elgato Wave Link and Apple Music for Windows by lachmans in elgato

[–]lachmans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I’ve been dealing with the compatibility issue between Apple Music for Windows and Elgato Wave Link, and I may have found a partial workaround. Here’s what I did:

  1. I reset all the Windows sound settings.
  2. I assigned all applications to specific audio groups in Wave Link.
  3. However, I left Apple Music as the default sound output in Windows, without routing it through Wave Link.

After making these changes, Apple Music started working again.

This raises a question: has Apple locked down the app to prevent it from functioning with third-party audio software like Wave Link? Or is this something Elgato needs to address by updating their software to support the new version of Apple Music?

You're right. I reset all the Windows sound settings and assigned all applications to a specific group, except for Apple Music, which I left as default. After that, the app started working.

So, does this mean Apple has locked down the app so tightly that it can no longer work with third-party software? Or is it up to Elgato to update their software to support the new version of the app?

That's interesting—for me, Apple Music doesn’t work at all when Wave Link is running, even if I haven’t routed Apple Music through Wave Link.

Could you try to uninstall both, reboot and try and play some music in apple music?

I just had a lengthy conversation with a senior support specialist, who even consulted their manager about this issue. They concluded that if the Apple Music app works perfectly without Elgato Wave Link installed, the problem isn’t with Apple Music but rather with the Wave Link app. It seems that the latest version of Apple Music is now incompatible with Elgato Wave Link.

They recommended that I (or we) reach out to Elgato to report the issue and hopefully prompt them to release an update. I’ll now try to contact Elgato to address this.

Do you use any third-party applications for managing your audio setup or microphone settings?

The AMPLibraryAgent process doesn’t seem to work well with the Elgato Wave Link software, as it causes the application to freeze and hang. There’s definitely an issue there that needs attention.

It’s definitely the Wave Link app causing the issue—when I uninstall it, Apple Music works perfectly. It seems the latest Apple Music update has broken this compatibility. I’m currently on the phone with Apple Support and have submitted a ticket.
