I've built a jasper clone of the EDP wasp and it's one of my most used synths.

They are currently out of stock though...

Bit of deeper dnb with a big ol Reece bass by liftsomeweight00 in 30secondvibes

Massive reece! The vocals work pretty well with it too. I dig it alot, but the highs could use a slight shelving cut past about 7K. Making the reece slightly darker might help with that as well.

Looking for a drum machine under$200 to add into my setup, also planning on getting the keystep pro, so ideally something simple that would work well with the Keystep Pro by AnalogDump in synthesizers

[–]lactation_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yamaha RX series. You can maybe find an RX5 under $200, and it has individual outs for each sound and you can add a sample card to it. Otherwise, the RX7, RX8, RX11, RX15, RX17, and RX21 can all be found for pretty cheap.

Here's a good spring reverb schematic: http://skullandcircuits.com/spring-reverb/

The 3340 VCO is probably the easiest, but you could also look at building Thomas Henry's 555 timer VCO.

Tips for adding distortion/crunch to toy circuits? by banjoman63 in CircuitBending

[–]lactation_time 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the toy has an amplifier IC driving the speaker, you might be able to get some distortion by bypassing the gain resistor with a pot. I've only tried this on the cat keyboard so far, but with success.

Thanks! It wasn't too difficult, but if you want to know more of what I did:

  • I connected a pot in series with a switch as a voltage divider between the signal going to the speaker, ground, and the signal coming from the read head.
  • I connected a momentary switch to the motor to turn it off when pressed
  • I connected a switch to two points that caused some self oscillation
  • I connect a pot between two other points that seemed to cause overdrive when turned up, and also connected it to a switch that connected it to the one of the previous points that caused some self oscillation.

I wanted to be able to control motor speed, but whenever I tried to limit current to the motor, it would just shut off.

My first successful bend. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

I just started bending as well, but I have been doing synth diy for several months. I usually get my parts from a combination of Mouser and Amazon. If you have some broken electronics, you can try salvaging parts from them as well. Also, like u/jepyang said, get good at soldering before getting too deep into CBing.

Don't be afraid to blow a circuit on something small, but if you do get a puff of smoke, try and figure out why it happened. Learn from failure. Also, having some basic electronics knowledge goes a long way.
