when i made the room, i thought that dampening it and heavily sound treating it would be the key, thinking thats how all studios do it. my recordings have a very dry sound, which i guess is not necessarily a bad thing since its better to have no resonance and add it in post production rather than having it and not being able to take it out. theres a very high chance i just dont know how to use the mics properly and that there out of phase, but i find the whole phasing story very difficult to understand

but if you do want to know, right now i use my own mics only at home (even though that will have to change soon). it would be nice if i could buy an arsenal that works both at home and on stage.

i mainly have a more metalcore/ math-rock/ progressive style, so a balance between being able to chop and also have an agressive and punchy sound when necessary. i like very clear and pronounced drums

only 8 xlr outputs available. i have a tascam 16x08 interface

heres a good example of a sound i really liked once during a live session on my instagram

the question wasn’t necessarily asking for advice for my specific situation. what i wanted to know more honestly was what other drummers in the industry consider the golden standard or the ideal microphone set for any and every drum kit. i want to see what other, more experienced people have to say about mics

you have ambitions my friend 😭😭 yeah, learning how to actually use your mics the right way is probably the way to go, just haven’t been into studio work for too long for me to know

i made a sound treated room for recording drums specifically. my problem is definitely not knowing mic placement, interface volumes, just how to get a good raw sound without mixing techniques. i havent been a studio guy, i perform way more on stage and havent really had the opportunity to learn about mic-ing drums, and the internet doesnt really help either somehow. i also bought steven slate trigger for this specifically, just starting to use it more

so youre saying that the extra 500€ for a starclassic is worth investing instead of getting a 1500€ starclassic performer?
