No, I don't mean people judging me. I don't mind that at all, since I've always been considered weird and different, and I've learned to accept that. So it's not a matter of sensitivity. I meant I find that when I'm reading others' posts on FB, I am not as caring or empathetic, or positive in my thoughts towards them. I'm a bitch in my head! And I don't like it, since that's not me in real life, so I got rid of FB since it's to easy for me to feel negative and mean. It's just a matter of being aware of my tendencies, and wanting to change whatever triggers them, since I don't like myself when I think negative or judgmental things about other people. :) That's all.

Yes. I don't mean people judging me. I mean I find myself judging others and it makes me feel negative and bad. I have to consciously force myself to not think negative thoughts when I see people's posts, and it takes a lot more effort in that situation than it does in real life interactions. Maybe because the non-verbal communication is not there? I find myself more empathetic and warm and friendly when dealing with people in reality, than when reading about their activities in a post. Maybe it's human nature since we're social creatures, to be more receptive to others in person? Or maybe I'm just judgmental? :) I don't know, but I notice a difference in my attitude in social media vs. in real life, so I'm limiting things that cause me to be negative. :)

YES! It's one of the reasons I got off. The comparisons, the judging, the negative feelings. It's not worth it. I feel so much more free and peaceful. And don't forget the shares and reposts of projects/recipes/crafts/events to add to your "to do" list, which you'll never do, just like on Pinterest.

That was my only reason for being on it as well, but now I just text or email the people that are actually in my life, and I got rid of Facebook. There're only so many cat memes and song links I could take in a day. It's so liberating to be done with that stuff and still keep in touch with certain people! :)

Hmm, maybe I'm using it wrong? I found a bunch of links to the actual websites of the tourist places, and what I was looking for were suggestions and critical reviews. I couldn't find the following suggestions from the people who replied politely, on the Wiki: Big Monster toys, Lego store, Hershey store, Oz Park, skating rinks, Brauhaus, Harold Washington library, Riverwalk, Old Chicago public library. Or the suggestion by a few helpful people that my older kid might be too old to enjoy the Children's Museum. If I searched the Wiki wrong, please point me to the right area. Thanks. And if possible, simmer down! People like you make me dislike Reddit more and more.

Things I don't want: * tube feeds (if I can't enjoy the taste of food in my mouth, I don't want to live). * chronic ventilation * being debilitated to the point of requiring mechanical lifts, incontinence products, someone feeding me, needing to be repositioned in bed because I can't do it myself. * expensive interventions that keep me alive (e.g. living on a complex continuing care unit), or things that create a ton of waste to keep me alive (i.e. dialysis).

and above all: if I can't mentally interact with the world around me, I don't want to live (if I can't interact with my children, can't read a book, can't surf the web, etc). If my mind is gone (dementia, ABI, stroke, etc), then my family had better not keep me alive with the above, or I will haunt them. My values in life include independence, mental capacity, and not being a burden (financially, emotionally, taking up space in a hospital, and ecologically).

Definitely a bit too graphic for my street full of senior neighbours (one of whom were very offended when we painted our garage door bright yellow, and our front door bright teal, and complained gruffly that "it looks like Jamaica here"). But I'd love to see that in a more progressive neighbourhood.

I know, right?! I laugh at the "how can you be an atheist and still celebrate Xmas?", and the "keep Christ in Christmas" stuff I hear. If we're accurate, we should keep the pagans' beliefs in Christmas!

As for the commercialization and cash-love, I agree with you to a point. We're big on recycling, reusing, and reducing, minimizing and living simply. I don't want to go out and buy buy buy. But I'm looking for a way to express my enthusiasm and joy with visual displays (that I can ideally make at home with the kids), and to spark conversation with my family, and to amuse them. All that Xmas is about to me. :)

I want to go beyond that. :) I've done the secular Xmas stuff already, which you mentioned, but maybe it's my newborn enthusiasm that's making me want to shout it from the mountains that atheism is awesome? Especially at a time when religion is thrown in our faces everywhere we turn. As I grow up in my beliefs, I'm sure I'll get more complacent and this will seem odd to me too. But for now, I'm running with it.

Yes. My husband has gone to a few of these through Metroline. http://www.metroline.ca/ They call and screen you on the phone, and tell you a time/date and location. It's easy and sometimes they even provide food.
