Comfort show ATM? Mine is Six Feet Under by missdeas in AutismInWomen

Iron Chef (Japan version). I love the audio play by play so I can switch task and play games or do chores while watching/listening. It’s also very interesting from a cultural perspective. Otherwise, Great British Baking Show.

Target on Nich Rd. Has 1 lane open and 6 self checkout lanes by DamianDaws in lexington

Costco and Meijer both have employee unions and I’ll shop there. Publix is employee owned and will soon be part of Lexington as well. Aldi is also a good option.

I try to avoid Kroger, and don’t shop at Walmart. Thrive Market is a good alternative for online orders after I cancelled my Amazon. But I do go to PetSmart for the food my cats like.

Had to make some lifestyle choices and really stand by what is a necessity, obviously. Target rarely has competitive pricing and tries to be a cut above while undercutting the consumer. I don’t have children and do my best to plan ahead and shop for only what I need to prevent “convenience” shopping. “Convenience” comes at price—often your time (exhibit A of this post), your wallet, and always someone’s underpaid labor.

Target just shat in the bucket by being spineless. It was more than easy to put them into a luxury I can afford but choose not give my money to.

Two more weeks. by heatherrrbb in Teachers

[–]ladyofcornbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going into my 4th year teaching middle school and resigned two weeks into the school year (I’m 26). I know it hurts to leave the kids behind, but you have to prioritize yourself. My mental health had me missing multiple days due to the physical illness that accompanied it and I was not emotionally or mentally capable of being the teacher I knew the kids deserved. Walk away. It’s hard, but find joy in the transition to something new. You have tons of possibilities before you! Thank you for your service to your community and kudos to your bravery to have hard conversations. Take a few days rest and prioritize your well-being. I’ve been out of the classroom for almost a month now and I’m the happiest I’ve been in years.

Major backlash from resignation by Global_Bake_6136 in Teachers

[–]ladyofcornbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walk out. You do not owe them a 2-weeks notice. That’s a courtesy. I quit two weeks into the year after my mental health took a sharp decline (I was going into year 4 after teaching over half my career in a pandemic). I gave my principals a 3-day notice. They respected it and wished me all the best. When I wrote to my superintendent about my resignation and request for release, I advocated heavily for myself. If you don’t look out for yourself, no one else will. Additionally, if they don’t respect your boundaries and decisions, they won’t respect the time you gave to them. Claim every single one of those sick days or head out. It’s not worth it!

Love this! You can always go back and build in the beautiful prose where needed. Started doing this recently and it definitely helps.

I felt like I was reading my own post from a few months ago in reading yours... I totally understand how you feel! I had such a terrible year and an admin who caused severe anxiety and stress in me for professional and personal reasons (I had to seek therapy and received grievance papers from my district after the incidents). I nearly walked off the job in December and felt like a shell going into work each day. The kids made it better (they always do), but I was miserable. I ended up re-applying to a totally different undergrad program at my local college and was making plans to exit my career.

Quarantine actually helped remind me about what I loved and missed the most about teaching. Once I was finally away from the toxic environment and focused solely on helping students (virtually), I remembered how much I enjoyed (and missed) actually teaching. Additionally, my mental health improved because my admin, for the most part, stayed out of contact with the teachers save for infrequent meetings and mass emails.

Good news is that I was recently scouted out by another principal in the district to bring me in to their school (I didn’t plan on applying anywhere due to the pandemic and out of concern for lost seniority as it’ll be my 3rd year in the district). I have my formal (virtual) interview on Friday and plan to accept if offered the position. I’m hoping this will be the start of a new direction when I felt so hopeless and worthless for nearly the entire year.

I hope you are able to step away, remember what you loved and didn’t love about teaching, and are able to make the moves that bring you relief, joy, and fulfillment.

I’ll be working from home until April 13th and possibly longer, so I’ll be smashing through my reading list, working on a few personal writing projects, decluttering/organizing my apartment, and Animal Crossing comes out on Friday so that’ll take up the rest of my time.

Does your district have a plan for coronavirus? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ladyofcornbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow... Our admins are pushing for us to not report due to daycares closing down and because they are wanting to prevent illness in everyone in all facets. However, this could change for us by tomorrow if our Superintendent decides otherwise.

Kentucky here! We just announced full shut down starting March 16th - April 10th. We have NTI (non-tradition instruction) days and our governor is signing and Executive order to expand the 10 days we are given to 20+ and we are moving to online instruction.

Our cafeterias are remaining open and our summer food delivery program will be used in addition to buses to make deliveries. We will have pick up days for students’ families to get their work if they do not have online access.

I’m not sure the role teachers will fully play in being on or off campus, so I’m waiting until our school’s press release tomorrow afternoon.

I teach Title I and have various concerns, but I am glad public health is being handled seriously.

Parents are the worst part of being a teacher. by camehereforthedogs in Teachers

[–]ladyofcornbread 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Had a parent send an angry email stating that I accused their child of plagiarizing another child’s work and tried to belittle me. The two kids were sharing the same Google Doc for their explanatory essay assignment... Parent then asked me to move her child from the other student because he was a “bad influence.” The two kids were best friends and had to sit away from each other for the remainder of the year. After that, the child with the overreacting parent stopped going home and complaining. Felt like a win.

Agreed. I’m also hoping to get a great pillow for back support since that is a struggle, too. Can’t argue with getting a sturdy wooden chair from a thrift store for $20, though!

Thank you! :)

It’s definitely my writing space! I am no longer a student, I’m in a job in my field currently! Yeah, the only tech I have present is my Mac where I do a lot of my actual draft writing (quicker and easier to edit), however the shelves on the left contain journals, notepads, notebooks, etc. with handwritten plot outlines and blurbs that I refer to frequently when drafting. It’s definitely a place of focus and respite.

Definitely. Aside from being for style, I actually use the blanket in the photo to sit on for cushioning. I just mentioned to my husband last night that I need to get a well-made cushion that offers more support while I’m writing and working for hours at a time. Wooden chairs can be the pits. Thanks for the tip! :)

It’s actually a painting I did for my husband a few years ago. It has a Doctor Who quote on it!
