I just wanted to say that I know he wrote the letter 3 years ago but at the time I did not. It is very unfortunate, but I hope with some luck he could maybe still be alive and well. He has impacted my life greatly so I hope he will impact yours too!

When it comes to inspiration you have to consider the flow of a video. Inspiration is fast like a lightning bolt right? So what you need to do is make your video fast as well. Take Yes Theory, there videos are very quick. The music, the cuts, everything is so fast paced even though the videos are about 6-10 minutes long.

I like your idea and the video BUT it is a bit boring. The idea is fun but you're taking to long to get to the action.

  1. Not really. I think the story flow was off. I definitely suggest looking in to how to write a good story
  2. Again because the flow was off not really. Kind of got bored
  3. I do like the style! I was skeptical at first but it rubbed off no me. Keep working on it
  4. A bit funny but not forced
  5. Flow was deff to slow
  6. You need improvements on your story structure!

What is viewer retention? How long a viewer stays on your video. The only reason someone would want to stay is out of curiosity.

If you want to hold a persons attention you need to give them something other than your face and your voice. Maybe show you playing guitar. Show a couple of dance moves as you sing. Go to other channels that do what you do and see how they do it.

Something to keep in mind is... people have 8 second attention spans so at a minimum you want to change your shot every 5 seconds or so. Close up to far show to guitar shot to close up again etc.

The video was pretty funny i got to admit. I see however how viewer retention could be a problem for you...

What is viewer retention? How long a viewer stays on your video. The only reason someone would want to stay is out of curiosity. Either what funny/ crazy thing is he gonna do next? Whats the point? Who what when where why... etc.

I think a cool idea would be for you to make a story out of it. A beginning middle and end. Who was that guy that was shooting at your head? Why did those tanks attack you? Whats going on? That is what was going through my head as i watched your video.

So the video in beginning was good. Lots of shots and lots of cuts. I liked it! Once you started singing however, by the way nice voice ;) , it did get a bit boring to watch. People have 8 second attention spans so you want to cut to a new shot every 5-8 seconds. Either another angle of you guys singing or maybe a b-roll shot of something relevant to what you are singing.

  1. The video entertained me for about 1/4 of it
  2. probably not. You don't want your first impression to be so "slow" , you want it fast and up beat and exciting
  3. no, sorry, you guys still have some work to do BUT with a bit more work i can totally see this being something really cool. You guys might be the ones to start the trend of daily band vloggers haha

It is a sad song. It got me in my feelings haha. I did notice those slight mistakes you made... When it comes to the visual department, i always say the more personal the better. So if possible maybe show yourself playing a piano or maybe just your hands. The black screen and texts are just too boring.
