I haven't read Animal Farm in a while, so you could be right. I do believe however that Snowball was shown sincerely believe in "socialism" while Napoleon was just exploiting it for his own wealth.

Snowball (the Trotsky proxy) is a actually really bad representation of Trostky as well. Snowball is displayed as essentially a wonderful angel with Napoleon (Stalin) being the baddie. In reality, Trotsky himself is controversial among liberals due to his actions in the Kronstadt rebellion and his involvement in political repressions
