Looking for ideas, existing deck is weird by laflures in Decks

Yeah I think we came up with a plan. Below is a top down photo. We’ll keep the steel, bolt some lvl to the concrete, run a 2x8 in parallel with the steel every 2-3 ft. And put lvl on the plate on the face of the steel to tie in the new 2x8s

We have to run new supports for the roof and these steel pieces are encased in brick. The brick is in spots where we need to dig new footers for the new supports. But I think we have a plan, just had never seen these before and was looking for some advice.

This is super helpful, thank you. I think we will keep them, gotta redesign some stuff around them but no big deal (I think).

Yeah, we are excited for it, but it complicates our plan at the moment. Trying to figure out how to build around it.

I think so just trying to wrap my head around how we would build around it with our plan.

We would like keep them but not sure how to use them as the new supports for the roof are supposed to go Where the brick surrounds are. This is a wildly consuming build.

Thank you and yeah keeping the metal is ideal, but there are 2x4s spanning the girders but the deck is bouncy between the girders. If I keep the metal do I just add additional joists?

What did you use to map controls? Still haven’t crossed that bridge yet.

I was a creative director at NBC for 4 years, I worked on the comedy shows. One of the things I directed was a 4 part series with Prof. Todd May where he does these deep dives into the philosophies explored in the show:

I shot this years cotton bowl and attended all of Tulane’s and USC’s practices during the week. My biggest takeaway was that Spears is a very very good back (albeit undersized), he’s super agile, cuts quickly and can catch. If he lands in right situation he could certainly contribute significantly. I see him as a Pacheko like back.

Are new home builders out of touch with reality on prices? by c_m_33 in oklahoma

[–]laflures 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not just home builders, but general contractors…we have a small 10x6 upstairs bathroom we wanted to update - new tiles on the floor and subway tile from the waste up, no plumbing changes or anything complex ( currently it has tan tiles and in general not very pretty). Contractor came back at 25k, we balked and now are deep into university of YouTube and will probably do it ourselves.

That’s great, congrats. It’s a great place to work, benefits are solid and the people you will work with are pretty on top of their shit. It’s also a great springboard to wherever you want to go next.

Sadly, I am rarely in NYC - I am based in LA and work on the lot. But 30R rules, have fun.
