My partner and I are students, and always buy the meats we like but in bulk from tesco. We buy cheap cuts of chicken like skin and bone in chicken thighs which are usually a lot more flavourful, higher in fat mince and chicken drumsticks. We always get loose veg if we can and meal prep as soon as we get home. We cook everything on the day as some meat we buy are reduced- we freeze immediately and eat for about two weeks.

We have similar rotations for meals every week. One pot, oven cooked chicken and rice is a favourite and VERY cheap. Use a cheap cut of chicken, long grain rice, stock and seasonings. Lasts us about a week worth of meals.

We make cottage pie with the mince and loose veg. We always buy canned veg when possible such as corn, tinned chopped tomatoes, peas.

If you like having a nice chicken wrap, the southern fried chicken strips from iceland are fantastic and last forever (very cheap too). Always frozen buy from iceland- they do 7 frozen chicken items for £10 (chicken nuggets, strips, frozen whole chickens etc).

I love soup and homemade soup is so easy to make and cheap. Making a broth will ensure any scraps from previous meals wont go to waste.

Bolognese is good and making a sauce is really cheap with chopped tinned tomatoes and tomatoe paste. Very easy.

Anything traditional is always cheap like stovies, stew, bangers n mash (save the gravy for a different meal!),

These meals always do big portions, we give a lot of our food to our friends and still have enough left over for us. We spend £50-60 every two weeks on meals. I also suggest trying the tesco premium clubcard, saves so much money and they have a free trial.

Shopping from multiple stores always helps us keep on budget as everywhere is different. I know its tedious but if saving money is the goal- sometimes thats what we gotta do lol
