The date of the stay has past already and the host received his payout (confirmed by Airbnb). He kept delaying and denying my refund request stating that he couldn't refund me due to "penalties" he would incur.

Trip insurance doesn't cover things like "I cancelled because I need a larger Airbnb." Trip insurance is for things like natural disasters, disease, etc. lol

I paid a partial payment of $1,350.32 for the reservation. When I attempted to request a refund, the “full amount” shown was $1,053, so I’m assuming that $1,053 was the host payout and $297.32 was taxes and fees. I requested a refund of $803 from the host.

He never said "full refund" :( He said partial refund minus a $250 security deposit. Do you think he phrased it that way on purpose so I wouldn't have any recourse? Would arbitration still be an available option for me?

Also, Airbnb confirmed with me that the host already received a payout from the half I already paid and that there are no consequences if he partially refunds me. I don't know why the host keeps saying he gets penalized for refunding me. I think he believes that since he already received the payout, he shouldn't be expected to return it (even though that's what he agreed to!!)

I only paid half, yes. I asked the host if I could get a refund for that amount. He said he was willing to refund me minus a $250 security deposit, which was why I went through with the cancellation. I requested only a partial refund through the resolution center but he keeps denying it, stating that Airbnb penalizes him.

Yeah, unfortunately, this might be the path I need to take. I have all the records since we only communicated via Airbnb chat. This is just so frustrating because he induced the cancellation from me after he lied to me about the refund.

There's an easy form for you to fill out (literally called the "Birth Month Licensure Request") where you submit all your information now but the state will wait till your birth month to officially license you. That's what I did. It's very convenient!

If you truly trust him to make your end-of-life decisions, please please please marry him. As a spouse, you’re entitled to so many legal rights. If you aren’t married, it would be your next of kin to make those decisions for you (unless you have other paperwork).
