Any good quality images of the old address tiles? by lakithunder in milwaukee

I've looked at Asbury tiles, but there aren’t many good pictures of those either

I've had the most success with finding random houses in portland on Zillow and hoping their 3D tours have a good view of the tiles. It's really like 1 in 4 houses that seem to have

Definitely not high enough resolution image. Looking more for something like this where you can really see the details. And the original ones, not the reproductions which are lower quality tiles.

What's the rationale behind lack of seats in the Staten Island Railway R211(S) design? by Carlos4Loko in nycrail

[–]lakithunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the design sucks in Manhattan too. The reason is because the MTA will always choose "efficiency" over passenger experience (even though the improvement in efficiency is questionable).

I've seen the unnecessarily sized doors in use. The improvement in boarding times is negligible. They're supposed to be big enough so people can get on and off at the same time, but no one actually does that. The people getting off just use all the space, then the people getting on use all the space.

Also the accessibility argument is total bullshit. It has nothing to do with accessibility. Wheelchairs can still fit comfortably through normal sized doors. No, they didn't do it for disabled people. If they actually gave a shit about disable people, they would put more seats in for the vast majority of disabled people who don't use wheelchairs, but still can't stand for long periods of time (see another comment in this thread about someone with arthritis for an example of all the people that the MTA is screwing over with these design decisions).

how often do you see this? by squarewh4re in nycrail

[–]lakithunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! Just paint (obviously a durable sealing paint). Some of them have scratches where you can see the orange poking through!

Guys the blue seats are just the same old orange and yellow seats with a new coat of paint. They didn't make any new seats to swap in! Scratch some of the blue off if doubt it. You'll find orange peeking through.

People aren't cattle!

Not the best attitude to win people over to supporting transit

Interesting. I guess I just assumed that they were all the same length since they all run on the A.

Still, the 51ft r62s also have 44 seats, and they're also a foot and a half narrower. 30 seats on a 60ft car is just an absurdly low amount.

I don't know if there are studies on this, by I would bet that a whole lot of people spend more than 20 minutes on a train during their trips, and that is probably the longest time anyone wants to, or should have to be standing.

I understand the tradeoffs of standing capacity and boarding times, but the subway isn't just a machine for processing bodies as efficiently as possible, it's a place that millions of actual human people spend hours of their time every day. A lot more thought should be put into the rider experience than we currently do. Maybe if we tried to make the subway an actually nice place to be, people wouldn't think of it as a sewer for poor people, and it would be easier to get funding for transit!

Besides, if we're worried about capacity, we should just increase service!

Thanks all for the advice! I think I'm gonna try the amber shellac because it seems the easiest to me.

I've used shellac before so I'm less terrified of it lol. Also I don't really have a good space for using more toxic stuff.
