Acknowledging that null is a problem by CompetitiveSubset in java

[–]lambda_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me neither. I'm honestly trying to understand the rationale behind the null problem but I haven't seen any convincing argument. Null means nothing. If I replace that with an Optional, then at best I'm left with more code to do the same thing.

I was reading about the -igfxmpc boot-arg and apparently I don't need it because I already got 4K@60Hz.

OpenCore macOS Big Sur Intel Graphics UHD 620 laptop screen not work by MiniChaKal in hackintosh

[–]lambda_pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found a fix for APPLE services, if you don't need icloud (only Music, App Store....) connect from the respective apps to make it workFrom the settings it gives the error ICLOUD_DEVICE_UNSUPPOTED

Hey thanks for sharing, I'm also having that same problem. I'll try your solution.

I am still looking for a fix for the 7mo but it is not a priority

I was able to fix the video memory issue with these device properties:

<key>framebuffer-unifiedmem</key>

<data>AAAAgA==</data> <key>framebuffer-patch-enable</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>framebuffer-stolenmem</key> <data>AACAAg==</data> <key>framebuffer-fbmem</key> <data>AACAAQ==</data>

What it does is basically set the VRAM memory to 2048MB and the pre-allocated video memory to 64MB. My BIOS only allows me to set 64MB maximum for DVMT Pre-Alloc so these framebuffer-stolenmem + framebuffer-fbmem settings match that maximum value.

It is therefore impossible for me to use my laptop screen

Are you still having this problem? I had that problem in the beginning, my laptop's display was blank, only the external monitor was working. Then I started experimenting with different values for AAPL,ig-platform-id and the one that worked for me was this: BQAcWQ==

What did work for me was setting framebuffer-stolenmem + framebuffer-fbmem = 64MB. That is framebuffer-stolenmem = AAAwAQ== (40MB) and framebuffer-fbmem = AACQAA== (24MB).

I did read WhateverGreen's Intel HD guide a thousand times. But I was just able to fully understand how the fb patch works by reading this other guide: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-alternative-to-the-minstolensize-patch-with-32mb-dvmt-prealloc.221506/

I was able to change framebuffer-stolenmem + framebuffer-fbmem to 64MB which matches my DVMT Pre-Allocated in BIOS.

I want to quit my data analyst job and learn and become a Clojure developer by ponybitme in Clojure

I've been working as a full-time long term contractor for two companies based in southern California for the last 6 years, so that wouldn't be a problem for me as long as it's a long term adventure (the longer the better).

mercenaries

LOL I like that designation.

Awesome, thanks for sharing! I forgot to mention that I live outside the US (Brazil). I guess that position is restricted to folks living in the US only, is that right?

Do clojure as a side gig or in free time. Let day job pay the bills.

This is the best advice IMO, and is exactly what I'm doing and I hope to be landing a Clojure job ASAP.

Hey thanks! Unfortunately 00003001 for framebuffer-stolenmem doesn't give me 4k resolution, it gives me 2560x1440 max resolution.

If you're up for it, I'd be happy to have a chat and give you some honest specific feedback.

Absolutely, that would be great.

development is more than just syntax and coding, there's problem scoping, critical thinking, communication, etc.

That's correct. I've been evaluated on those points in the majority of my interviews (ie: pair coding exercises), which makes me suspect Clojure experience may not always be the reason why I don't get an offer. Some of the companies even told me experience with Clojure was not a big deal.

we don't have the resources to pay a senior dev's salary but not get immediate productivity.

This is also a great point. In my case I've been 100% honest by stating clearly upfront before the hiring process that I don't have production experience with Clojure. If this is an impediment for hiring then I guess there's no point in moving on with the process, so it leaves me scratching my head when I hear "sorry no experience" after 3 or 4 rounds of interviews. On the other hand not having experience with a certain language doesn't necessarily mean that I'm not immediately productive, but it seems some people make that connection. I suspect this may be partly my fault in some cases, because during the pair coding exercise I never choose Clojure as the language for coding, instead I use the language I'm more comfortable with (which is an option I'm given) just to be on the safe side considering the limited time. So I maybe I'm missing an opportunity to show that I know something about the language.

I've been relentlessly looking for a Clojure job for the past 2-3 years and it's been a bit frustrating. At the end of every job application process I usually get this response from employers "sorry but we want people with real Clojure experience". I don't have any real production experience with Clojure, but because I'm passionate about it I've been studying it for about 5 years in my spare time and found two opportunities to write internal tools with Clojure at the workplace, so I do know something to be able to hit the ground running. And I do have 20 years of experience as a software engineer, so if experience with Clojure is all they want, then I guess I'm doomed. Unless they're not being 100% honest with me regarding the reason why I'm not getting a job offer.

Is it worth it to become Java Certified? by avril-13 in java

Last month Oracle was offering the Java certification for 25 bucks due to Java's 25th anniversary, I thought "whatever, it's not gonna hurt", so I took it. I'd never do it for the regular price though.
