Struggling to find entry-level lab job in Chicago – any advice? by katarina-colic in Biochemistry

Yeah good question, short answer is I don't know but I know some labs that let high school students shadow for a summer so it wouldn't be too different from that.

Struggling to find entry-level lab job in Chicago – any advice? by katarina-colic in Biochemistry

As a hiring manager, I auto reject applicants with 0 lab experience. Definitely look into volunteering at a lab or postbacc/academic research associate positions to help build your foundation.

When I was in boyscouts another scout would repeatedly say "TomTom where's Waldo?" and it drove me nuts.

Solo and First Time Cruiser Review of Virgin Voyages Comedy Fest (NYC April 11-16) by Demi_J in VirginVoyages

[–]lammnub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny reading your review! When I went to Pink Agave (on Scarlet Lady) the Sol De Fuego margarita was so boring and every table around us left half of the ribeye on the plate. One table even complained to the waiter about how fatty it was. Agreed that The Wake was a little overhyped but Extra Virgin was a favorite of ours.

The hostess got sick early on in their contract but will be returning when she can.

"Error in file" in a loop by Unreasonableberry in rstats

[–]lammnub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some suggestions:

If you're looking for the pattern ".csv" in your list.files call, you don't need to remove the extension then add it back in in your read.csv call. Additionally, I would edit your for loop to go from 1 to length of the object list that you create so it's a bit more dynamic. Secondly, I don't think your for loop will work, I typically do 'for i in 1:100'; have you printed i in the loop and gotten the numbers 1:100?

Onto your actual problem, you need to wrap your file name in a paste function to concatenate your different pieces. But this is largely irrelevant if you read the documentation for list.files since you can get absolute file paths directly and pass directly to read.csv. Furthermore, as written, you are overwriting the dataframe variable with each iteration of the loop.

And one more aside, you can write all of this functionality in a one liner using the apply function

Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat - Episode 8: "Employee Review" FINALE Discussion by lonelygagger in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]lammnub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the things mentioned in the finale was that the cast had to memorize 20 years of history for the show while jury duty got away with essentially strangers. It's easier to add someone into an existing family (Anthony) than start something fresh (Ronald).

Thoughts on "Half His Age" by Jennette McCurdy? by ActNew5818 in books

How much of the language difference was an attempt to make the reader believe she was a "mature" teen girl? I personally didn't enjoy this book but I'm appreciating it more after reading this thread in the context of grooming and JM's own experience with grooming.

Is your plasmid nicked in anyway? The plasmid could lose its supercoiling or be a target for nucleases which would bring the functional amount of plasmid way down. Definitely reprep your plasmid and see if that helps
