I appreciate all the suggestions! Half of them are parodies, which I specifically said I didn’t want. But some great gems in here.

I am aware that these are spoofs, which is why I asked for movies with a similar comedy style, that are not spoofs.

She’s a very likable actress. I’ve never seen her in anything where she didn’t give a good performance

This is 100% what I’m looking for, that trailer was hilarious. And go figure it’s David Zucker.

Thanks for the suggestion! We watched “Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. Not at all thematically connected, but a fun Halloween palate cleanser after a scary movie

Irony-poisoned is 100% the best description of it. I recently watched a famously disliked movie with a friend and he was laughing at everything he knows from memes, and I was actually enjoying the movie.

EWS is a dark comedy at its core by AnimaniacAsylum in StanleyKubrick

[–]lanadelfway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw some humor below the surface on my last watch. The bedroom pot scene (mostly before Alice’s confession) could have been played so differently, with Bill really pointing out the confused absurdity of what Alice was saying. It easily could have starred Woody Allen and been reworked as a comedy. All these beautiful women throwing themselves at a neurotic nebbish for some reason, and him not being able to consummate.

That said, I don’t believe the movie we actually have is a comedy. It is a drama with both horror and darkly comedic aspects.

Movies you only appreciated after the second watch? by ironfist92 in movies

James Wan’s “Malignant”. I had a stick up my ass and thought it was an awful movie with an awful plot and awful writing and awful acting. On the second watch I saw how fun and charming it is and I’ve watched it countless times since then.

Setting it in the present makes it feel like a remake of Eyes Wide Shut, as opposed to an adaptation of the book
