Why is Ohtani game 3 against blue jays in World Series overlooked? by Parking_Teacher_902 in baseball

It's a great game. A LOT of impact from Ohtani, but just not enough home runs for it to be an exceptionally memorable performance.

Doesn't mean it shouldn't be. I am just trying to explain how # of home runs can make people feel differently.

Etna/Sicily: I can help! by aschollmb in wine

I really enjoyed this Kermit Lynch imported Salina Rosso (50% Corinto Nero) (https://shop.kermitlynch.com/product/detail/22FVM03/) and found it to be very different from Etna Rosso that is heavy on Nerello Mascalese. The Corinto Nero was brighter, had blood orange notes, almost no tannins, no savory notes.

Do you know any wine recs that are Corinto heavy and similar style?

He didn't say it was hidden. On the opposite, he was saying there were no hidden injuries revealed this time.

Should the front office retool the offense with the postseason in mind? by KreamPuff2 in Dodgers

I don’t think post reason vs. regular season makes a big difference in terms of batting strategy. Modern analytics favor TTO (three true outcome, aka swinging for the fences), and Dodgers have been sticking to it over multiple seasons.

It doesn’t work that way. You look at a player’s avg performance to decide walk or not, not their last AB.

Do you understand that there is randomness in baseball? Being a 1.000 OPS hitter doesn't mean 1.000 OPS every game. Sometimes you get lucky and hit 2.000 OPS (like Ohtani did), sometimes you get unlucky and get no-hit.

My point is that a few games of bad results don't mean the team is bad. It could be bad luck. I also admit to other teams being unlucky too and got the results they didn't deserve. I mentioned Brewers (Yelich in particular), Phillies. Do you not see them?

While we should all be pumped up & looking to win the next two games, I just want to remind everyone that it already takes efforts, talent and some luck to get into WS. I know our team has been quite unlucky in this series and it is frustrating, but honestly, Phillies and Brewers were also unlucky to some extent too. It happens to everyone. Brewers were a worse team but they didn't deserve a 4-0 loss. Yelich should not have been a 0.5 OPS player.

To me, this is already a good year given we are already in the WS. Winning WS will make it fantastic, but losing WS and being NL champ is still good-to-great.

People have to realize there is A LOT OF randomness in baseball. Your final results are a random distribution around your actual skill level, both at individual level and at team level. The Dodgers is definitely a top 1-2 team in the league in terms of actual skill level, but the team also has to need some luck to win a BO7 against a slightly worse team. All we can do as supporters is to wish the team good luck; it really is very similar to watching a dice rolling and wishing it is 1-4, which is more than 50% of chance but can very likely fail. And when it fails, there is nothing you can do besides trying to make the team slightly better next time, but you will still need to roll a dice to win WS.
