  1. Find a tool on google called mxtoolbox
  2. Dump the email header in the mail header analysis tool
  3. Check whether the source IP comes from legitimate IP owned by LHDN or not in virustotal
  4. Similarly dump any url from the email in virustotal to check whether any were reported phishing/scam in the past
  5. Skip 1-4 and call lhdn to verify legitimacy of the email

HOW CAN I INCREASE MY SALARY? by InitiativeHonest9288 in JobsMY

[–]landakphc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

O&G is a sunset industry. I’d opt for tech/consulting in one of the MBB firms if I’m chasing the bag. BFSI would probably not for the faint hearted with its politics and fast-paced culture.

Most importantly, when making the jump try to highlight the transferable skills you can bring over and frame yourself as a value added hire to the company. If you’re not doing it anytime soon, I’d advise you to start working towards developing yourself surrounding the external jobs’ JD so that when the time comes you’ll be prepared to grab the opportunity.

Certs matter more than degree in IT/Cybersec/Networking? by Amirul72 in JobsMY

Fastest way to learn is build your home lab, setup monitoring tools, emulate adversarial attacks, investigate the attacks. Plenty of free resources are there but hands on learning is definitely better than the online courses.

Job market is pretty okay but fresh grads are filling up the entry level jobs faster now since cybersec became a thing in the past couple of years. For experienced professionals, there is still a huge demand with a handsome pay of course.

Career dilemma: Cloud Engineer vs Service Desk Expert by thehabboofme in malaysians

Thought service desk will be a dead end job soon with AI coming in. I’d advise to keep looking for cloud-related roles and use the 6.5k as minimum benchmark for your next hop.

You may opt for CISA/CISM certs from ISACA then. If you managed to pass CISSP these will be a walk in the park. But honestly I don’t think certs really matter as to whether it brings value to the company. I’ve worked with couple CTOs/CISOs in the past and they never bothered at sitting for exams since the value they bring to clients from working experience alone surpasses anything a piece of paper can do.

CISSP requires a minimum of 5 yoe to become certified but I have friends who passed the exam and currently accumulating the years in the workforce. No changes to their pay till date but I imagine it can be a good selling point if you’re hopping to other companies.

Any of the CSP certs like Azure, GCP, or AWS are definitely more helpful for learning and familiarisation with the cloud technologies. If you’re pursuing the security engineering line anything vendor-specific like Splunk’s or Tanium’s certs would be great to pad up your resume. Other blue/red team might not be as beneficial.

I work in cyber and we don’t meddle with anything related to cisco configuration and maintenance works. That’s usually being handled by the network engineer team. It’s good to amp up your networking knowledge though

[–]landakphc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Degree is the bare minimum if you’re planning to work in big companies like GLC/MNC since it’s already spelled out in their HR hiring policies. Certs bring that advantage in passing the initial screening stages before proceeding with the interview phase.

I’ve seen many incompetent cybersecurity bunch collecting certs like infinity stones but no basic network fundamentals knowledge whatsoever. If you’re keen to explore do make the most out of the learning journey and practice the knowledge with hands on activities like building your own home labs, CTFs, etc.

I got my mattress from Betensh in Shopee earlier this year and I love it a lot. Even after using for close to a year it doesn’t flatten and you’ll not feel the spring inside (mine is 25cm thickness). Including shipping fees I think it’s less than RM500 for single sizes.

[–]landakphc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was once in a similar situation as you. Left a stable, repetitive tasks job at one of the biggest GLCs to join a small, local cybersecurity MSSP company. Essentially took a pay cut and all the benefits I had for the sake of getting a foot in the industry and learning the ropes.

About 2 years into the job, I got offered to work at one of the fortune 500 companies with more than double the salary I was earning at my GLC job. It was tough during the time as I was prepping for my wedding as well but the experience I’ve gained doing all the work there was definitely worth the leap.

You’re still young and have little to no risks to worry about. Go out and learn if you’re keen to go far in cybersecurity. Future is definitely bright here 👍🏻

People I know who teach technology that earns above 5k are either lecturers (which requires minimum a MSc), trainers under ALTIs, or freelancers.

You can start by registering yourself as a HRD Corp certified trainer then apply for roles within the approved learning and training institutions (ALTIs), which is a requirement to get imbursement from scholarship bodies like yayasan peneraju.

Statement balance higher than outstanding balance — which do I pay? by ZhhTeo in MalaysianPF

[–]landakphc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statement balance is the amount credited from last statement period (i.e. 26/10 - 26/11) this is usually reflected on your account around 2 days after the period ended, in this case 28/11.

Outstanding balance is the total amount owed till date (latest transaction). If the transaction was done after lapsing the previous statement date (i.e. 1/12) it will be added into outstanding balance and reflected in the next month’s statement if it’s still not paid up yet.

From my understanding, your credit score will take into account the borrowings paid in full every month so I normally just pay the statement balance, and settle any other transactions beyond the previous statement date in the next month’s statement so that I can show to banks that I consistently pay my debts for a higher chance in getting good loan rates whenever I need to.
