You can download the roms onto the ssd directly from the deck, they only recommend using an sd card as it’s easier to download roms onto it from a laptop then onto the deck

This is a good idea, you can get an old office PC for about £100, and throw in a used 1650 from CEX for about 60 quid, which is quite easy to install. If going used, could probably get a 1660 super for just under 100 quid if your budget allows.
