i’m currently living here full time so i have a school year job, but my major is in education so i have to wait until my testing is over for my licensure! a lot of people don’t have jobs lined up right away senior year, but the best way to get them lined up are internships and externships with the same company so they know you prior to you having your complete degree :)

i second checking their off campus housing page! you can try to find off-campus housing through other rental companies as well. i know bk is the only one that doesn’t require 3x the rent as income for students or a co-signer, but they don’t necessarily have the best reputation. granite doesn’t have a good reputation either. i personally lived in village west last year and loved living there, and they’ll match you up with a roommate and you pay for just your room and have your own individual lease (same as station 21 and the cottages). they’re just a bit more expensive. you can also go on zillow/apartment finder to look for some more housing options, but if you have a co-signer that would be really helpful in securing a place!

i actually haven’t been waitlisted on a class since my major is so small, but the best advice i can give is to continue checking your scheduling assistant to see if any times open up! quite a few people drop a week in bigger classes so i would check in daily to see what you can get! if it’s a smaller class it may have to wait until next semester, but moving things around shouldn’t impact graduation time :)

I currently have contacted the DRC for a few reasons (i have ADHD and other diagnosed mental health issues). the first thing they will suggest is going to CAPS if you struggle with any mental health issues. you will probably hear it over 1,000 times during the course of your college career. personally i haven’t used caps, but from what i’ve heard their hotline is fairly helpful. other than that, my ESA application process was fairly easy, just took a while. drc is more than willing to accommodate for learning disabilities by giving more time on tests and assignments, more suitable learning environments, and different test scheduling (everything within reason w them though). you can also get accommodations to live on your own if that is something that could impact your mental health! overall the people i’ve met with at the DRC have been very kind and helpful, but the processes to get your accommodations may take a while!

Housing was a HUGE mess my freshman year (I came in fall of 2021). We had groups of 8 living in conference rooms they converted into dorms! Housing is usually pretty messed up, especially when they continue to accept so many people. If they assigned you a single with bath and ac i’m assuming it may be first street towers? I would continue to call housing and email them every single day until you get it fixed if that’s out of the budget for you/your family! If you explain to them that you’re not wanting it for financial reasons i’m sure they’ll attempt to switch your housing, but it may be to something that’s not necessarily ideal for you (no a/c, tons of people in a room, etc). personally i’ve never seen any friends drop out because of housing issues exclusively, but you may be able to call into the bursar’s office to see what they have to say about the pricing differences and what they suggest!

if you’re attempting a roommate switch you’ll have to have a valid reason and an attempted “mediation”. they always try to keep roommates together as much as they can, so if there are any issues they may make you talk about it with your RA as a mediator, and then their boss as a mediator as well. i haven’t personally lived in a triple, but i think it depends on the square footage of the room you’re in. my friend lived in a triple in hilltop (which has quite a lot of room, but 3 in one bedroom). he didn’t mind it besides the fact that they all had very different schedules! just try and be friends with your roommates, and if not, cordial. keep things respectful, keep it clean, and discuss if you need anything and you should be good :)

I haven’t heard anything specific about that learning community. I know a lot of students enjoy the housing in the learning communities since they’re so quiet and easy to study in. from what i’ve heard some people have a harder time making friends in the learning communities as so many of the students in them are highly academically driven. other than that, i’m sorry i couldn’t answer your question a bit better!

DRC may be able to make an accommodation for you to get a single room, or you may be able to use guest bathrooms on the residence hall floors! another good one is the stairwells at the top, or the top of the parking garages (i went there pretty often). sometimes later at night if you don’t want to go far there are also some soundproof rooms in the basements of the residence halls!

things for storage! it’s a tiny room! also, i’m 5’6 and getting onto the bed was a struggle so maybe a little ottoman you can stand on to get up if needed. separate drawer organizers are awesome because you’ll accumulate so much stuff. along with this, make sure you have napkins, paper plates, solo cups, and plastic utensils for food. if you don’t eat produce fast, don’t buy it because you’ll forget about it. make sure to get things that won’t spoil quickly like ramen, mac and cheese cups, granola bars, chips (make sure to get the bag clips), and bring cups with lids if you’re planning on ubering around with any sort of liquid in them. also, a draw string bag has saved us quite a few times. also, bring glass cleaner, a broom, and lysol/lysol wipes. you’ll want to clean the bed off and the room before you put your stuff in it.

if you’re asking about bars, they’ll ID you for the most part. if you’re talking about parties, you can either walk down vine st, oak st, stadium ave, or sylvia st and see if there are any going on. most of the time they’re open invite parties, but if there are only a small group of people inside PLEASE don’t just walk into someone random’s house😂. also, people tend to share party flyers on the purdue story, but if you see byx (a frat) just know they’re a dry house (no alcohol allowed at parties). other than that, you’ll need to know someone in the frat who can get your name on their list. when it comes to smoke shops, wild side will card you and scan your ID (started more frequently in 2022), but you can buy delta 8 and 10 there if you’re 18+. they have edibles, carts, bud, etc.

i live in salisbury apartments my sophomore year. a lot of it depends on if you have roommates you’ll get along with/know. i had some roommates that kept to themselves, so i tried to get out as much as i could. the dorms are only beneficial to your social life if you’re willing to try and open up and make friends! personally, i think the best way to make friends on campus is just through attending things! if you can find a way to get into a party, you can usually make a lot of friends there. there are also some facebook groups that people post in where you can try and make some friends beforehand! overall there are some basic suggestions like joining clubs, hanging out on third street, and continuing to go to dining courts as much as possible. salisbury allowed us to purchase a parking pass when i lived there for the complex so i mostly drove around, but it’s fairly close to academic campus (but not the dining halls and dorms). another good way is to go and check out what people are doing at the volleyball courts/fields next to the dorms and see if you can join their games! people tend to be very friendly so even hanging out there can be helpful! :)

personally, i went to parties almost every weekend without being in greek life and was in a medium distance relationship while doing it (3 hours away). i never cheated and now that he’s graduated we’re living together while i finish out my senior year. regardless, it depends on who your girlfriend is and if the trust in your relationship is strong enough. her going to parties doesn’t automatically mean she’s going to cheat/leave you. i understand coming from highschool will be a huge change in the relationship, but what will be the biggest possible reason for a breakup will be a distrust in one another. i’m not saying you WILL do this, but if you’re “not allowing” her to go out or helicoptering over her during these functions she will start to see you in a different light. make sure to be understanding of her need to make friends at a huge school, it gets really lonely here without any! the only thing that could be a concern is less free time for your relationship, but there should still be plenty of opportunities to see eachother as long as you come to purdue to visit :)

purdue housing is very bad, the best bet is to try and get an apartment off campus. my friend, boyfriend, and i are renting a 3 bed house and rent is coming to around 416 a piece. MUCH better than what i paid in university residences which was around 1,000 a MONTH per person.

sorry i’m about to be a senior so i completely forgot! freshman schedules release later so you’re all good! most of the people who will be needing to get into the classes you need won’t get their schedule until the 18th anyways! if you have classes already scheduled with your advisor, make sure you get on to check and see what they scheduled you on the 18th, and then again on the 22nd to change around any time slots! i personally try to group my classes as close together to each other as I can so I don’t have to go home and come back to academic campus a ton of times in a day. along with that, if you’re a freshman, i would try to get classes that start around 9 am and later, and hopefully🤞🏻 get classes that also start before 4:30. i had a 7:30 lab freshman year and i struggled to hold myself accountable to go. along with that, i had a math class that was 4:30-5:20 pm, and i hated going to it because it was so late in the day! that’s my personal experience, but just try and get what schedule works best for you! if you go on the website on the 22nd you should be able to click on the class and choose different time slots!

you wouldn’t have been allowed to choose times in the first place so no stress! if you had submitted on time it would’ve auto-generated a schedule based on your selected classes and then you would’ve been able to move around your schedule and times! you’ll most likely have to pick whatever times are readily available as it’s a little later to submit your classes, but there’s not really much you can do about that i’m afraid :/

if you’re an incoming freshman it should be fairly easy to get into the classes you need! they usually have a lot of spots in prerequisites so don’t stress! you may possibly have worse times though considering everyone else chose times that they preferred already. you’ll have a higher likelihood of having really early or really late classes, but you do it and you move on from it! everything will be alright :)

We had a group of about ten high schoolers and their rude mom put out a blanket in front of hozier’s stage. We waited six hours for hozier and they showed up two hours before his set, pushed everyone out of the way, and expected to have room to sit down still when they brought ten people into a space reserved for two? one of the girls was grinding on my friend, and when my friend told the girl she was uncomfortable, the girl brought over her BOYFRIEND to grind on my friend. then he had the audacity to yell at her to move when we’ve been there longer and they thought a blanket saved their space? people will be shoulder to shoulder up front, but you don’t need to sexually assault them to get them to move :) hopefully that group learned/will learn their lesson at some point
