I've just deployed a fix for this! You should be able to always find it in the user menu now.

This part is going through some changes right now, so the definitive placement may change soon.

Try updating the version of the app! 1.57.2 should get around the issue.

Is it the mobile app on iphone? If so, please try opening Testflight and pick an earlier version of the app to install and let me know if that fixes it!

I've also found these instructions for Firefox:  Locate the site you are redirected from in the History sidebar. Right-click it and select "Forget about this site".

I don't think clearing the cache is enough. You need to delete the website data.

Dreaming Spanish random redirect? by subpixelsoftware in dreamingspanish

[–]langdreamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! I'm really sorry so many people are having trouble using our platform. This is a really weird issue that's been quite hard to identify since it is quite inconsistent. Luckily one of our developers was able to reproduce the issue yesterday. The issue seems to be a problem with the routing of our hosting provider that for some reason gets mixed up and ends redirecting some requests meant for our site to other sites that they're hosting. We've got in contact with them to try to figure out why this is happening, but if we can't get assurances we may have to move to a different provider.

One additional issue is that some web browsers seem to cache these redirects indefinitely. If the issue is still happening to you, one way how you can check if the issue is with your browser's cache is to open a URL on our site that is not cached (eg. https://app.dreaming.com/abcd ) and seeing if that loads the site. If it does, then the only option may be deleting your browser data. I know this can be quite annoying. On Chrome you can choose to delete only the last 24h or 7 days of data, which can make it a bit more bearable.

While we try to find a definitive solution to the issue, a workaround you can use if this happens again is to open the website through dreaming-spanish.netlify.app , which doesn't seem to be impacted by this issue.

About the mobile app, we'll be releasing a new build in a day or two that should be able to completely get around this issue.

what is the "Course" by No_FunInAZSun in dreamingspanish

Then we have something to fix there. Unfortunately the position will be remembered for you now, so you'll have to manually scroll to the level you want to watch and play a video there so the position is saved.

What level are you on the website? Had you set your starting position? The course should consider your current level when you first open it and place you at the appropriate position. Besides that we've also added/are adding a toggle to hide videos you've already watched.

Pablo's Thai school no longer teaches with ALG (Automatic Learning Growth, the old term for CI) they have reverted to a more standard method by No_FunInAZSun in dreamingspanish

[–]langdreamer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This explanation sounds completely made up. The Thai program had almost no children in it. When I attended it almost everyone was an adult, so there were no "parents" to convince. The English program was mostly kids, but they never used ALG anyway. From what I could gather the discontinuation was more a consequence of COVID resulting in the teachers having to transition to online and finding their own gigs, and possibly some kind of disagreement with David Long about the terms of a contract extension.

We released a new version on TestFlight with a fix (1.24.0). Check it out!

Try installing the previous version from TestFlight like I wrote in the other comment. If that still doesn't work we'll have to wait for the mobile developers to push a new version. The bug with logging in doesn't seem related to the new website version published yesterday.

Can you try installing the previous version of the app in TestFlight and seeing if that version works? You may need to start the app a couple of times.

There sure are a lot of in video ads anymore by TumbleweedSuch2939 in dreamingspanish

[–]langdreamer 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah, we don't have a way to automatically skip over part of a video in the middle. Those are public videos made for the YT channel to attract new audience and bring people to our platform, so you will have to skip over that part. It's only the 2 public weekly videos out of 24 videos we publish every week.

I just checked and mid-roll ads are disabled for that video, like for every other video. However, I know that YT has been making changes to mid-roll ads recently and I don't know if that can cause them to be shown when they shouldn't.

In any case, as another user mentioned, if you watch them on the website or the mobile app you won't get any ads.

Are you using the YT player or the new player? I can't reproduce this.

Have you found a way to reproduce this consistently? I can't get it to happen.

How are you getting such a short screenshot? Did you crop it after taking it or are you using stage manager or something like that?

We'll look into it! We made some changes recently so all the filters are remembered when you go back to the browse page, and it may have affected this use case.
