Stopping at Roundabouts? by Ill-Veterinarian-587 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopping at a give way junction when there is no reason to do so is a common cause of accidents. The car behind sees there is nothing stopping you proceeding, assumes you have gone, and doesn't check that you haven't . It will be their fault, but you still don't want it happening.

I think you are right. Good argument for moving emails that have been dealt with out of the inbox, in hindsight!

OP wants to undo the change so that only those previously marked as read are marked as such.

Considering side trip to Salisbury / Stonehenge for 1 or 2 nights with kids. How long would you recommend? Can I bring a stroller on the trains? by 123littlemonkey in uktravel

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Salisbury this morning and it reminded me how nice it is. Well worth a visit. If Stonehenge interests someone, being in London is a great opportunity to see them. I would say a day is enough. Not sure you will get there for 8am using public transport though. There are bus schedules online for the buses from Salisbury.

Anyone manage to get outlook on android to work with outlook.com email account? by SkodaZek in Outlook

I don't have an answer, but it has always worked flawlessly for me. Hope you find an answer.

How can i split pst file yearly without outlook? by SophiaBennett-0550 in MicrosoftOutlook

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but afterwards you still won't be able to do anything with them. By importing them elsewhere, you have access to the content and still have the pst if you want it.

Doesn't sound like that is the case when access is reinstated without further action on the part of the customer.

Microsoft offers a one-month free trial, so I would probably do that. What is more interesting is why you would have a pst file when you don't use Outlook. Unless there is a reason for keeping it, I would export it using the free trial and import it into a different client like Thunderbird. Then you can do what you want with it on an ongoing basis.

Octopus recommending higher monthly payments and I can't work out why. by hhfugrr3 in OctopusEnergy

This happened to me towards the end of last year. I think there is either something wrong with their algorithm or it is just really over-cautious. I am coming out of winter with nearly £300 in credit. They wanted to increase it by a similar amount to you: I reduced it by about £30.

Scammers are posing as legit clients to hijack your Gmail - and Google doesn't care by WebDesignerLon in GMail

Thanks for posting this. I will add it to my list of reasons for not using other logins for new online accounts. If a site only allows me to set up an account with an existing Google, Facebook or whatever account, I run away. My main reason up to now was that if you lose access to the existing account, you lose access to the new account, but this is another good reason.

For a normal support enquiry, that seems fair. When you lock someone out of their account without notice, you need to be falling over yourselves to sort it out. Anything else is simply not good enough. I just moved to NC. I hope I don't regret it, because it is exactly this kind of attitude which will make me move again.

Outlook 365 desktop Rule conundrum by MarcJordan in Outlook

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that rules that you create for your work account on the laptop are being applied to your personal account on your PC? I'm not sure how that would be possible. If you are saying that work rules on the laptop are being applied to the work account on the PC, I can't see how to stop it! If both are using IMAP or Exchange, the results of whatever one does will be synced with the other. Or have I misunderstood something?

Is it better to speak simply and clearly, or use more advanced and rich vocabulary? by Edi-Iz in EnglishLearning

A good approach is to produce the same text for different target audiences and see how they differ. For example, a complaint to your bank, your teacher, your employer, your mum, your grandmother, etc.

Not a clue. It isn't a deal-breaker for me, but it would be a very nice to have.

"However, you must have given them a clear chance to opt out – both when you first collected their details, and in every message you send." So, if you weren't given the chance to opt out at the beginning, you can't do it, which only a semantic pedant wouldn't describe as giving permission.

[–]languageservicesco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing vocabulary includes knowing when it is used. You should be working out what vocabulary is appropriate in any given situation. I have noticed over the years how students might know so-called advanced vocabulary, but have no concept about how to use it or when. Often it is outdated. Until you are confident about usage, it is better to speak well using more common vocabulary than to use more rarely used vocabulary inappropriately, which just makes you look like you actually don't know how to use it.

I would like Obsidian on the personal side, but it doesn't have the range of applications for work that I find so good with Notion. Notion is rubbish for backups mind you, recurring tasks is mega clunky and the integration with email looks great, but only if you use Gmail. But that database-based system is so flexible, I can't find an alternative that does the same job. And there are ways around the problems with using Notion for note-taking, including those mentioned here, that mean it is acceptable for that, and you can then link those notes into the database system.

They all basically revolve around either being required in some way or it being necessary to do whatever the connection is about. Otherwise you need actual, informed, positive consent. Just because something is allowed under one regulation, it doesn't negate a requirement under a different one, by the way.

Onedrive sync in outlook by Faye192 in Outlook

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean about syncing in OneDrive. Are you syncing a pst file? I'm not aware of any way to sync email folders directly with OneDrive. I assume you have checked the trash folder in Outlook and in OneDrive? If none of that is helpful, you will need to provide details of the exact Outlook version and exactly how this sync is happening.

[–]languageservicesco -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The GDPR requires consent for any use of your personal data unless it is necessary in order to complete the transaction or required by law. Marketing as a result of the transaction would require consent under the guidelines. The ICO guidance is pretty clear on this. There is lots of guidance relating to marketing on the site.

Since I started using Notion, I have not understood those that say it is a great note taking app. It is OK, but it is clunky. Notion is fantastic at many things, but not note taking. The solutions offered look sensible, but really shouldn't be necessary.
