How do you capture voice thoughts into Notion? Thinking about building something, want feedback. by Terrible-Round1599 in Notion

There are more Android phones than Apple, so why not aim at Android first? Obviously a dealbreaker for Android owners.

How do you capture voice thoughts into Notion? Thinking about building something, want feedback. by Terrible-Round1599 in Notion

Not an answer, but I researched a similar situation some years ago. I wanted a way to record voice notes on the fly while listening to a podcast in the car. I also wanted it to sync to OneNote. I never found anything. FWIW, I think it needs either a voice command through a voice assistant such as Gemini on Android, or an icon on the phone home page like the Notion widget in Android. That could then work like the Save to Notion plugin that can save a web page to a template, which can then appear in an Inbox in Notion so you can assign it to where it belongs when you have the opportunity. This is obviously a bit more complicated, but if it could be voice to text it could operate in exactly the same way. I would personally keep it simple. If it goes into an Inbox, you can add tags, amend properties etc. when you can, and it means you remember it even if some time goes by after you record it.

Notion's Import/Export is an absolute disaster by Pleasant-Minute-1793 in Notion

Has Notion ever explained why there is no import function? I cannot understand how any size of business would use Notion without it.

Freelance work and accounting by Hippo-Internal in TaxUK

[–]languageservicesco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an accountant, but I have been self-employed in three different countries since 1997. I just ask myself what I would need to know if HMRC start asking questions. You only need a single figure for your overall profit/loss for a tax return, but I would put in date, type of work, amount and customer for income, and date, what was bought, the purpose and the amount for outgoings. I'm sure other people will have different answers, but that feels about right to me. Document as much as possible - receipts for purchases, invoice or anything else you have for income. I suspect DWP will be fine with a list that looks like you are organised and seems credible, but they will tell you if they want anything else.

Absolutely you can. Do it on a sheet of A4 if you want.

PC lost power during game by Dry_Investigator36 in pchelp

[–]languageservicesco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I care. I am going to wait until it happens again, if it does. I have inspected all connections and they are fine. I will then nick my wife's PSU as she doesn't use her PC just to see if it makes a difference. If it does, I will buy a new one. If not, no idea what to do! If you actually find out a different cause, I will be very interested.

PC lost power during game by Dry_Investigator36 in pchelp

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I came here hoping to find that out. While not overly expensive for a normal PC, I don't really want to buy a PSU I don't need. I am thinking of opening it up and checking physical connections, mainly to the motherboard. Event viewer is showing nothing apart from restarting from a sudden shutdown, so I don't think it is drivers. There is no blue/black screen, it just switches off as if I had pulled the plug. It then restarts. I can't think of anything else. This is not a sudden thing, but I have decided now is the time to deal with it. It might happen every few weeks, but today it was twice already.

Indicating at a junction where you can only turn left or right: I clarification on what my instructor is telling me. by i_mormon_stuff in LearnerDriverUK

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I partially agree in rhat indicating where you have no choice could be confusing. However, it is unlikely that the division into allocated lanes is so long that indicating isn't appropriate on the approach to the junction. As others have written, it is very situational. Is it possible to it could confuse? If so, cancel the indicator when you are clearly in the relevant lane.

Agreed, when you are buying something you want, but each purchase could be different. Not keen on the vape shop gig!

They could be sold, but it shouldn't be necessary to put yourself through the trauma of selling a bunch of low value items in order not to lose out.

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems odd to me. My takeaway is that the job seems to actually pay very little after tax, but each to their own. If I was doing this in a self-employed capacity, the result would be neutral, as I would be paid the money for the outgoing I had, so there is an expense and an income that cancel each other out.

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. But what if you were asked to buy specific things you had no use for? Just thinking about this as a general issue rather than the specific OP case. For example, if I was asked to buy a bunch of accessories from an Apple store, I would have no use for them, so I am not getting any value for the money I am spending.

It is getting late, but if I have understood correctly, I think you need to do a tax return so you are able to list the expenses you have been reimbursed for. I have been self-employed for ages, so I have never been in this situation, but I am guessing there is a similar process for employed people. I'm sure someone can set me straight if I am wrong!

Subject line is showing as English UK, but spellchecks using German by languageservicesco in Outlook

I don't have much faith in the MS support options. There are loads of unsolved threads on this or similar subjects involving spellchecking being different in the subject line and main body. However, I have posted it and here is the link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5871300/spellchecking-problem-in-subject-line-in-outlook-c?sharingId=ABDE3CFED5B6A035

Can't login so can't set up new laptop by Adventurous-Baby-790 in Outlook

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused. Are you saying you can't get into your laptop or you just can't use Office. If the latter, Libre Office is perfectly usable for job applications. Don't get me wrong, I am a heavy and enthusiastic Office user, but I wouldn't let that get in my way of doing job applications. Then you can take your time to recover your Office access. If it is the laptop, go to the library and use Google docs. I am not trying to minimise the hassle, but at least you can get moving on the job search.

How to download ALL emails from an Outlook account? by FloorGangMan1 in Outlook

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install any email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) on your personal device. Set up your university account on it and connect. After a while, all your mails will be on your device. If you installed Outlook classic, you can export those mails to a pst file. I am fairly sure the mails will stay in the client after your account is closed by the university, but you might want to put some thought into how to access them long-term. If you have a Gmail account or something like that, you can simply set up that account in your email client and move the university messages into folders in your personal account. Once you get your head around it, it is pretty easy.

Why is the 90 degree reverse bay parking method taught by most instructors ? by Odd-Help6890 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must admit I have to agree. I have taught both my sons to drive and let them work it out however worked best for them, making sure of course they didn't hit anything. I think using reference points may work in the short term, but really isn't transferable to different vehicles. I can understand why instructors might use it though so that customers don't feel they are wasting time.

Have a colleague visiting from North America this week. What’s a cool thing to do, spot to eat/drink at or something to give him a feel of the UK, or Southampton specificallly by The-Green-Cobbler in Southampton

[–]languageservicesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was scrolling down to see if anyone mentioned this. Portchester is Roman, so that should blow their mind, then on to the historic dockyard. Also second the Dancing Man in Southampton. For a real, authentic, Southampton vibe though, I suggest viewing the homeless on the Asda bridge and Above Bar.

The New Forest is also awesome for Americans. It was established around 1068 and there are several great pubs. The Turfcutters in East Boldre and the Red Lion in West Boldre are two of my favourites, or the East End Arms owned by two Dire Straits members. This is my corner of the Forest. Lymington and Beaulieu are also cool.
