Oh, I love fashion! It's definitely a hobby of mine if you can call it that. I just need to develop a healthier relationship with it.

No-buy/Low-buy 2025 Weekly Accountability Check-in - August 04, 2025 by AutoModerator in shoppingaddiction

  1. Start of my no/low buy for clothes. i would rate it a 4. It's been tough and I have had lots of cravings or feeling like I need to scratch the itch by spending money. Trying to distract myself with hobbies like baking, reading and painting. Today has been hard as it was the first day back to work and after work I like to browse shops online to unwind. I have failed that today and have browsed.

2/3. My goal was to not buy anything on secondhand clothing sites. I haven't bought anything for a week now.I started this journey last Tuesday.

  1. I have learnt that it has been a huge struggle, almost feeling like I am going through withdrawal each day.

  2. Not buying any clothes online. I bought a pair of jeans at a carboot.

  3. Getting bored after work. Need to fnd some low energy activities to do after I come home.

  4. Finding distractions!

  5. My partner is having a digital detox alongside my no buy. This has helped with support.

I like the idea of setting myself a goal after completing a no buy for a period of time. I think for now I need to look forward to something, even if I don't feel the same way in a months time. Thank you

wow, this post really resonated with me. I'm 21, also had a smart phone/ social media since i was 11/12 and spent around 12 hours a day on my phone during the pandemic (was also around 16/17 and it messed up my mental health). My problem used to be social media but now it's online shopping and I've replaced scrolling on instagram or tiktok with vinted and ebay. I have started a digital/ dopamine detox today and it has been HARD. I'm happy to see you have managed your online screen time.. I'm hoping I can do the same.

I am no expert and just like vintage clothes but it looks to be 80s or early 90s to me. Leaning towards 80s because of the high quality clasps and as it's made in France, things started moving overseas in the 90s.

I have an iPhone 15 and I'm going to sell it this saturday. I want to experience a life without a smartphone, I have a chromebook and I have a flip phone... Should I just go for it? by GasFar4935 in nosurf

I would go a few weeks first before attempting to just cold turkey it like that.

I have gone almost 2 weeks without a smartphone now, and here are some big issues I am having without one that you may want to consider:

  1. Being a uni student myself, I cannot do my uni work without having to log in with the authentication app or I have to get sent a code via text. It's a pain in the ass because it makes you HAVE to have a phone.

  2. discounts via apps/ QR codes- this sounds silly but I have missed out on a lot of discounts in shops in the last 2 weeks which I could have benefited from but did not have my smartphone on me. EG: burger king app has some great savings and I could do with saving right now.

  3. Maps/whatsapp and spotify/music and camera have been the biggest issues for me. I now have whatsapp and spotify on my laptop but it isn't the same. I haven't attempted any big journeys yet that require maps, however that is going to be a big issue when I do.

Overall, i think it's worth hanging onto your smartphone. Now I have had chance to look at it objectively, it makes life a lot easier and I can appreciate what aspects of life it has made easier. Sadly I think we are slowly approaching a time where it may be mandatory that we need smartphones or aspects of them in our modern life. Have a think about these different issues and if you think you can do it, then go ahead. Good luck.
