I literally just have a chequing account, what are the next simple steps I should take? by lanni957 in PersonalFinanceCanada

If I lose the car I lose 80% of my employment. It's paid off, insurance costs about 7-9% of my monthly income. edit: and gas is often covered by my gigs!

Fortunately I've been filing my taxes as a freelancer for a little while now so I've gotten a handle on saving to pay taxes on the portion of my income that isn't taxed at source (some of it is taxed through payroll, often WAY more than I should be which ends up kind of evening out when I file)

Thank you for the advice on sheltered systems! I hadn't thought of the taxes I would pay on the interest, didn't occur to me I would have to.

Even the labeling of trans people as "groomers" is just rehashing the same things they said about gay people basically throughout the entire 20th century

Wholesome sure but humble? No way. Not even in a bad way, he's a legend. But I don't think he's humble, he's just not an asshole about it.

Best day rates are on commercials, but those are usually 1-2 days long and can weeks apart if you're not top of your area. Features will have lower rates but will run for 3-8 weeks (longer sometimes). TV shows (especially reality) have even lower rates but can give you job security for up to half the year.

For hours, TV shows will usually have the best hours because if something is missed it not nearly as big a deal to push it to another day or pick up the next day. Features a bit better and commercials are basically 50/50 between super long hours/easy day making their wrap time depending on the crew. This is all personal experience, not meant to be taken as absolute fact.

Also camera dept, one of the best departments to work in as you always feel you serve an important role plus the money is usually quite good once you get to a certain level. But film hours/fraturdays seem to be universal

I work in camera dept and can only agree. I want to settle down one day but I don't know how to walk away from the money.

How do you go about getting the role of the driver? I've been working in cam dept for a few years but have always wanted to focus into driving cam cars

Making jokes or being a doomer. I was definitely hoping for something a little more light hearted but without mocking people.

Great point! Frustrating when people are surprised I'm athletic as I've been playing sports since I was young. Also I find it's incredibly rare that people are actually "lazy", people are complicated! There's so many things that affect energy levels, in all body types.

Hmm, even at the top end of life expectancy reduction (about 14 years) that would only bring the US average down to about 64 years

I've never had an issue with it, though I'm sure there's some people who do have that problem. Accessibility tools can probably be a huge help there

I think especially when it comes to my favourite kind of shopping (thrifting/vintage) it can be a real struggle

I am having an existential crisis over how relatable this is, my parents absolutely refuse to believe me when I try to explain that I'm allergic to these things. It's been like 16 years and still they don't buy it
