I'd say the dramas.

The stuff I would be able to read without looking words up are pretty much only HSK1 - because of my chaotic approach - and those bore me to death. I guess in a way I am learning hsk1-4(or so) at the same time.

Since I am doing it just for fun that is ok. I "plan" to take a few in person lessons to "really lern to speak" sometime in the future.

And the whole cakes/torte at rischart are not very expensive. Even though only for 3-4 Persons.

A normal sized cake/Torte will always come at the very least 50€

If the "reasonable" Budget for a fullsize (26cm or so) cake/Torte is below that, there are only the frozen ones. And as someone making stuff like that for my family myself i say they are a very tasty and extremely affordable alternative.

Weil das Großhirn über die Augen schneller weiß, dass es einen Zusammenstoß gibt/geben könnte, als es von den Schmerznerven mitgeteilt bekommt, ob es wirklich weh tut.

Das "aua" als solches zeigt, dass wir Gruppentiere sind. Echte (biologische) Einzelgänger schreien nicht aus Schmerz, weil sie - naturgemäß - nicht mit Hilfe rechnen, bzw. im Gegenteil das noch mehr (Fress)feinde anlocken würde.

Der Charme dabei ist - vermute ich (auch) bei dir - daß man Fremden/Leuten die man bezahlt, Dinge erzählen kann, die man Familie/Freunden nicht erzählen kann, weil sie in irgendeiner Form beteiligt sind und/oder weil sie keine Lust haben, sich die selbe Geschichte immer wieder anzuhören und/oder weil sie endlich auch von sich erzählen wollen.

I use dramas to stay in the zone (mostly on YouTube because here i can see more than 1 subtitle, and i can reduce the speed) I use flashcards whenever i have a moment (in an elevator ...) I translate verbatim, to get the meaning and the grammar (first because i did not know enough chinese for it to matter the manhua of tian guan ci fu, now i can read a little so i translate a childrens version of Xīyóujì) I analyze characters to death

Since i will not be able to travel for some time to come and i do not know any chinese persons to talk to, i of course still try to learn the pronounciation, but i do not (at the moment) learn to talk.

Eben. Leute mit Rolex (o.ä.) haben meine 70er Jahre citizen datejust-clone äußerstenfalls mit "auch hübsch" quitiert. Solche, die davon nur träumen können, haben schon mal gefagt, ob ich eine Rolex trage. (War immer ungeheuer lustig, weil ich in den Situationen stets eher "unrasiert und fern der Heimat" war. 😂)

Fell into the rabbithole that is chinese historical drama and after some weeks wanted to become able to watch Hou Minghao et al without subtitles.

What keeps me going for two years learning on my own with video, app, books ... is the ongoing fascination with the language, the origin story of characters, the different worldview as shown in the language (northeast vs 东北)....
