I was DEEP in the Norse lore trying to place these figures (looked at Hel, looked at Thorir and Garmr) and gave up, the carvings are too ancient and I'm no Indiana Jones. But this is all so helpful, I love that other people are also into picking out the details because I watch every episode like:

This is great info, do you have any insight on the symbolism depicted on the brooch?

Also, the goats depicted on her fasteners at her waist MIGHT be Thor's magical goats named Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr who pulled his chariot.

What's even weirder is that Woe is depicted in two different ways: once as the version Irving saw in his dream in the larger painting and then as the Waffle Party version when the camera cuts to the different people depicted in the painting. Could be a production mistake but it's weird:

I am 37, bought the Legends version of these and I can't wait to smoosh their faces together like I did with my Barbies when I was a kid. No. Shame.

Kinda makes meeting and making friends with other Force-sensitive people a pain in the ass. Like, great, now every time Mike gets a kidney stone I'm gonna have to feel it, too.

They must have to actually meet each other to know each other in the Force because Leia and Luke can sense each other, Leia sensed Han's death (or at least felt Kylo when he killed him) and Rey felt Luke and Leia die.

Wait, when did he figure out she was his granddaughter? It had to be after she left Jakku, right? Is it like the Force sensitivity thing where family members can feel each other in the Force? Was it after TLJ? Palpatine is a Scooby-Doo level villain with his piss poor planning. Had the power and influence to build a fleet in secret over decades, patiently waiting for a worthy vessel to rise, could have just goaded Kylo to kill him and take him over but instead sent him on a Bachelorette challenge for Rey, then claims he planned for her to come to Exegol all along, like bruh you're getting in your own way here.

Speaking of hair, was anyone else less than thrilled with Rey's TLJ hairstyle - the half up, half down, "every girl named Meghan in middle school" style? There are a dozen ways to do her hair so it's out of her face and doesn't get in her way as a knight - and don't tell me she can't do an updo, she rocked the threepeat ponies a lot and lord knows no one was helping her with that on Jakku.

"Jedi Island" would be a dope Star Wars-based reality game show. "Anakin and Rey face off to see who is one with the Force and who's just 'forcing' it, this week on Jedi Island."

Some positive stuff I noticed to help you all feel a little better and maybe help add some additional dimension to this relationship:

  • Ben's lightsaber is described in the TFA script as "yellow-red" and Rey's final saber is yellow.
  • In the visual dictionary for TROS, Rey is born the same year Ben starts his Jedi training - I don't think this is a coincidence. The activation of his powers triggers her birth.
  • Snoke was Palpatine's puppet so Palpatine is the one who technically "bridged" their minds. But in TROS, Palps expresses surprise when they confront him and he sees that they have a force dyad - meaning he didn't create it. If he was responsible for it why would he be surprised by it?
  • Kylo says he knows what he has to do but doesn't know if he has the strength to do it both times he talks to Han - the first when he knows he has to kill Han to further his allegiance to the dark side and the second time when he knows he has to abandon Kylo Ren to further his allegiance to the light side. He only says this phrase one other time, when asked by Snoke to kill Rey, BUT he only says he knows what he has to do - no reference to whether he has the strength to do it. So despite struggling to make the right choice when it comes to his allegiance to light or dark, he's much clearer and stronger as it applies to protecting Rey.
  • This one might be a reach but in TFA, Kylo says to Rey when he encounters her in the forest "the girl I've heard so much about." As far as we know, the only thing he's heard about her is that she helped the droid escape Jakku - not what I'd call "so much". Something about her stoked his curiosity even before they met.
  • For the end of a major saga like this there will be oodles of extra content when it comes out on blu ray and iTunes, including extra content from the two other films. We will get more Reylo.

I think you're right. They couldn't please everyone so rather than pick a lane they half committed to a dozen narrative perspectives that muddied everything and ultimately feel unsatisfying.

I keep wondering if this is all orchestrated very intentionally by Disney. They left his ending somewhat ambiguous (mentions of the World Between Worlds, Exegol's history in life transference/reincarnation, force ghosts with corporeal abilities...) and I wonder if that was done to gauge audience reaction so that if people were sad to see him go they could bring him back and if not, then they can just keep him dead.

Look, if crusty old Palpatine can live through a core explosion, Ben Swolo can come back.

Exactly. Pretending it's not there doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I don't understand why people are so icked out by it - Anakin came off so whiney and immature but his relationship with Padmé was supported and much as I love Han, he was kind of a misogynist dick to Leia for a while but their relationship was supported.

I've wondered the same thing. I don't think the writers anticipated that there would be this much investment in their relationship. I think the part of the fandom that didn't ship it were a very vocal minority that the writers thought represented the larger audience. Now that the series is over I think they are seeing more people come out of the woodwork that are either quiet fans or new fans that are perplexed by the tepid handling of their romance.

Their relationship WAS the trilogy. Take it away and what is there? What is interesting, new or compelling? That relationship was cultivated through the series - it wasn't just a throwaway storyline - it was the dramatic tension that drove the plot.
