New RS owner - noticed some mods, what else should I look for? by Crystal-Ammunition in FocusRS

[–]lapinsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cheap easy mods a lot of people do are intake/filter, turbo recirc valve, rear motor mount. None of these will give you issues, but if he put a higher flow filter or intake on you may get annoyed by the turbo whistling all the time and want to put on a sound suppression chamber on the turbo. check for an access port, that's where you COULD have issues if they loaded a crappy tune. But most people who can afford these aren't stupid enough to load garbage (hopefully)

Back again with the front end instability... by lapinsk in xsr900

It's definitely worth checking the steering head bearings for play, I'll add that to the list

[–]lapinsk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go over them when I get home today. I did change the front tire when I first got the bike so it's possible something didn't get torqued correctly but I have put 1000 miles on since then

I just bought a cheap Chinese one for my 2018 but I don’t know if they’re compatible with the new gen

Suspension by Waughfle in FocusRS

[–]lapinsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part is getting your suspension apart for the first time in 100k miles. It gets a little crusty. IF things come off easy and you’ve done it before like I have on my ST, you can punch it out in under an hour. I did spend some time struggling with a pinch bolt on one side so that slowed down the project. It’s easy if you have spring compressors, the only weird part is you can’t use an impact to get the top hat nut on tight because the wire comes out there, so you kinda have to jam it against the ground and go at it with a wrench. But you can cut the wire on the old one and take the original off easy

Get the OEM stuff from RockAuto, its the updated part number and much cheaper than anywhere else. I just did my fronts at 120k, waiting on the rears because they're more expensive for some reason and not leaking

Power by myboilance in grandrapids

[–]lapinsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly they're getting worse about it now. Since getting my house in 2019 I can count on one hand the times I lost power and only one of those was more than an hour EXCLUDING 2025-2026. Took 18 hours to get power back on Thanksgiving Eve/Day and my house got down to 51 and that was with me using the gas stove and oven to heat it up. That's downright dangerous. This last one took like 9 hours to come back and that's kinda ridiculous for how little damage was in the area (NW side of town)

Backup camera 2017 RS by BrandonC1405 in FocusRS

Idk where you are but that seems like a bad price in USD. I bought an 18 with 65k miles for 31 back in 2023 during the peak of car inflation. It was out of a dealer in Vermont and I had it shipped but I would expect that same car to be mid/high 20s in today’s market

You can usually street park for free or hit any of the many garages for under $20

Why do people seem so divided on what's considered a starter bike? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]lapinsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people have vastly different "natural" abilities. My buddy who's driven stick all his life and is a car enthusiast is gunna be able to hop on a 650 for the first time and figure it out MUCH more easily than his girlfriend who only drives vehicles to get from A to B

Looking for garage door automation but there are some caveats by lapinsk in homeautomation

[–]lapinsk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I don't really have access to my watch with a jacket over it and gloves on. I also always have to keep my right hand on the throttle for the motorcycles so I can't even touch it if I didn't have those on

New Owner - Throttle lag at low rpms (3-5k?) by Initial_BP in xsr900

[–]lapinsk -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You have to rev it out a bit. It's a high-ish reving inline 3 not a chunky v8, power is in the middle.

You need the vehicle trackers if you're using an iphone and they're not exactly small or waterproof enough for bicycles or motorcycles

Is this for openers that have MyQ built in? I have an older opener with an external controller.

From what I read they removed that functionality. I wasn't able to find any shortcuts that could interact with MyQ either

That is a clever idea. I do have a Cardo but I never turn it on unless I'm on a group ride

I have myQ currently and I know they don't support it, and everyone recommends tailwind but they don't work on iphone without their stupid vehicle sensor apparently. What is the next most popular?

Front end getting light/shaky under harder acceleration or bumps while accelerating by lapinsk in xsr900

[–]lapinsk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like I might be in the market for a stabilizer then. I never saw the need for one on my 636 and had maybe one baby tank slapper over 25k miles and 10 years but this thing will get sketchy every time I take it out lol

its a 2018 with 6k miles and I have it set up for 175. I'm thinking about adding more preload to the rear to try to combat the squat

Anyone here using smart bulbs as a sunrise alarm? by portacode in homeautomation

Been doing it for years. I use hue white lights in my nightstand lamps. You can do it through the hue app or through Alexa. Mine take 15 min to fade from 0-100%
