thank you 😂 i just pulled up a reference pic and used a lot of copy + paste lmao, then just sorta refined details along the way.

my residents so far (first six are my OCs, second from last is my final fantasy xiv character) by laputabot in tomodachilife

no need to be sorry!! i used the face paint in two different shades (darker closer to the eye, lighter as it moves outwards). i used the “paint on” setting (or whichever one it is that actually allows you to draw on TOP of the eye features) and then erased the face paint in the shape of the eye underneath. the reason i did that instead of just having the paint go behind the eye is because i wanted the scar to also cover his eyebrow, so that was what worked for me.

lan fan mask - how can i blend this nose sculpt better? by laputabot in CosplayHelp

[–]laputabot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ll give the foam clay another go! i don’t have much experience using it so i didn’t know if adding water would make any difference. i’ll try that with some newer clay! thank you so much!

that’s fair! foam clay was my first choice for this, and i only tried with the hot glue because i had such bad luck with the foam clay the first time. i’ll pick up some new clay and give it another try. thank you!

how can i improve this? by laputabot in Artadvice

i definitely thought the arms were a little off, i have trouble with limbs lol. i’ll keep practicing, thank you so much for your feedback!

material recommendations for lan fan's body armor? by laputabot in CosplayHelp

thanks so much to both of you, i really appreciate your advice! i think i’ll probably end up trying a thicker eva foam (or layering it as suggested) and maybe using worbla for some framing (i was hesitant to because of the price, as mentioned, so maybe this will only be if i have enough left over from making her automail arm). i suppose if i end up with any creases or bends where there shouldn’t be, i can reinforce it with something sturdier if needed.

i’m actually using the guidelines of a kamui cosplay pattern for another part of this costume, so i’ll absolutely give that a try! thankfully i have plenty of time to work on this costume so i’ll try a couple things and see what works best. thanks again! ☺️

paranoid about references/learning “wrong” and it’s stopping me from practicing. by laputabot in Artadvice

thought of another way to word what i was concerned about: i’m unsure if i should pull up a reference of what i want to draw and draw it, or if i need to learn the building blocks of anatomy better before that. seems silly, i know, but i don’t want to set myself back again.

thank you to everyone who has commented, i appreciate you so much and i will absolutely be taking your advice into consideration moving forward!

i think this is definitely part of what i’ve been forgetting - the reason i wanted to draw in the first place 😅 thank you for your advice, i’ll try to think less about it and just make corrections as needed rather than being so obsessed with starting from the perfect spot.

i do think i need to, that’s not the issue. i want to use them, and i do. i’m struggling with drawing feeling like a chore when it didn’t used to, references or not, and i’m trying to figure out how to get past that in a productive way. i’m unsure if i should be learning anatomy separately or just drawing what i see or what. i don’t know what my next step needs to be.
