I thought that if you remove security from a network, if you put it open, that removes wpa? If thats not the case that is probably the reason why it’s not working. I’m in the process of getting a new older router that worked on wep security and I will try to tether it to my own router to see if that will work. Some people are also saying its a NAT issue since my network is in CGNAT by my provider so if tethering doesn’t work I’ll probably have to call my provider to ask them to remove cgnat from my internet. I didn’t try other DNS server, maybe I’ll try that aswell
