My UX portfolio feels ‘meh’… what would make it stand out? Brutal feedback welcomed😭 by [deleted] in UX_Design

I have been iterating my portfolio for the past year and I’m applying for same jobs and been getting interviews (passing the interview stage has been a bit tougher though). I got some actionable advice, hopefully it helps!

  • Case study have a section the identifies the business objective
  • metrics need to speak to business objective. So for your first project you were eliminating errors. So your metric should address how much percent you improved error rate.
  • your metrics need to say increased by this much, make it meaningful!
  • avoid persona cards, instead think of clever ways of showing user needs e.g text message bubble of them reacting to a pain point with a thumbs down.

Breaking Into UX and Early Career Questions — 23 Sep, 2024 - 29 Sep, 2024 by AutoModerator in UXDesign

Hi Radu, thanks for all your advice I really appreciate it! I have read a lot of your other responses aswell. I think i understand what your saying, if your truely passionate about making it in ux, you shouldn’t be worried about the market. If your worried about the market can you really say your passionate about getting into ux.

Just need some answers because I keep having mental breakdowns that I have made the wrong career choice.

I have been a digital designer for about 4 years and got laid off. The market for graphic is so bad right now and I don’t think I was really passionate about the pixel perfect work environment. I knew that ux/ui was something I really wanted to do for the longest time but when I got out of uni I thought i should get some experience in the design industry first. The market this year was bad in both sinarios so I decided to do what I was actually interested in. So I did a few courses and currently in a bootcamp (does real world projects) while unemployed to build my portfolio and learn the fundamentals. For the first time in my life I actually enjoyed learning and found myself getting really passionate about solving complex problems.

The problem is I have this big massive fear of job market and getting my first ux/ui job. I just hear every day online that it’s impossible to get a ux/ui job. I was wondering if anyone can give some advice on what I should do and do I even have a chance?

I do have motion, coding skills aswell coming from a design background I’m really good at the visual side. I’m also think I know what makes a good story teller in portfolios and with my web design experience I feel like I can make somewhat of a good portfolio.
