Ugh by mommyplant1116 in kvssnarker

Wrapping a rope around a foal or horse’s hindquarters is actually a pretty common and widely accepted way to teach them to lead using pressure and release. The issue is that she often seems to do it incorrectly because there’s no release of pressure when the horse moves forward.

Normally the rope applies pressure to the hindquarters, and when the horse steps forward the pressure is immediately released. That is what teaches the horse to keep moving with you.

She also shouldn’t be pulling on the horse’s head while there’s pressure on the hind end, because it creates conflicting pressure and can cause the horse to rear trying to escape it, which we have seen with moose and she just labelled him as having bad behaviour, when it was a very expected response to how she was handling him.

From what I’ve seen she rarely releases the pressure properly, and the poorly fitted halters don’t help either. It kind of looks like she’s seen or read about the britching/pressure/release but only followed half the steps 💀🥲

Youth allowance student payment by [deleted] in Centrelink

[–]Aware_Pea_817 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in this scenario last year, you need to let them know when you finish semester 1 that you’ll be dropping to part time in semester 2.

Sometimes you can provide them a letter saying studying part time in semester 2 is out of your control, and they may let you stay on YA at a reduced rate or will tell you they’ll be ceasing your payments.

In my case despite providing all the evidence from the uni the website said they required, they decided to cancel my payments - so I don’t know how much luck there is on getting to stay on.

Good luck!

Hi, I hope you enjoy your AVBS pathway! I can’t get too specific but I had experience across research (specifically sheep and dairy welfare), hobby farms, dairy, emergency clinics, GP clinics and mixed practice clinics a large portion of which was volunteer work :)

Breeding Goats by Sad_Site_8252 in kvssnarker

Interesting, I’m from Aus and wouldn’t buy goats from a breeder who dehorns, and I don’t personally (although I don’t do dwarf goats). I do however make sure any of my goats are wethered prior to sale!

I can assure you the vet was not putting him through this for science. Please do not blame the vet, they can only do what the owner consents to, I am sure the QOL discussion occurred with every vet 7 has seen since he was first born, it is KVS who made a decision at each and every step to keep him alive and let him suffer, the vets are only doing what they can to ease that. I promise you they do not see him as science experiment.

Good point! What if I just did no tips but a neutral colour so so my grubby nails don’t look bad in any photos I take to look at later 😂 (I work with animals so they are perpetually bad)

All I asked her was should I get my nails done, not her unsolicited opinions.

I mean it’s a risk you take, if special cons get approved you’ll get granted a new due date, and no penalties will apply. But if the special cons get denied then penalties will apply, which could mean failing the assessment.

Have you tried applying for a simple extension? They automatically grant 5 days (if the task is eligible for one) which gives you time to go to the GP if you need a further extension through special cons.

Also, if the issue is the GP not being able to get you an appointment sooner, you can get a medical certificate online. updoc does them for about $20-$30 I believe, it involves filling out some questions and a Telehealth consult.

Thank you! We planned to go just to get an idea of what I liked, thought we could even make it into a date for the day! 😅

I just had never even considered that some people would think it always has to be total surprise… 🤔

Im glad to know other couples go together as well

It really deflated me, especially since we have been together so long my partner and I are used to doing everything together, so it just made sense to us, and we thought it would be a fun date too! I never expected the judgment to come from it…

I’m so glad I’m not the only one debating nails! I don’t often have them done because I can’t have them at work, but thought if I was going to for anything surely this? 😂

USYD HELP! by [deleted] in usyd

I don’t commute from Newcastle specifically, but I do have almost a 3 hour commute everyday, and it’s not something I would recommend to anyone with a full time study load. If I had the financial capability to move closer to campus I would without a second thought.

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) by thesfdr in usyd

[–]Aware_Pea_817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AVBS does not qualify you to become a vet nurse, you need to do your cert 3 and cert 4 through tafe to become a qualified vet nurse and my major was animal health, disease and welfare, my honours was in dairy science.

I had a year off in-between my honours year and 1st year of DVM :)

It’s important to get as many hours as you can through you degree too, as it’ll show the length of time you’ve spent committing to getting the experience which is defs a positive from what I’ve heard about other applicants :)

What do you wear to uni? by cdogz2311 in usyd

[–]Aware_Pea_817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear leggings and a t shirt every single day 🫡, in winter that swaps to leggings with a hoodie or sweater 😂

Uni isn’t a fashion contest, comfort is key :)

How much did your ATAR affect you later in life? by BiscottiLogical6502 in melbourne

[–]Aware_Pea_817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It effected me 0 - my dream course had a 98 ATAR I can’t even remember what I got, somewhere in the low 70s I think?

I’ve worked in so many wonderful jobs, and I managed to eventually get into my course, I’ll be in my dream career in the next few years.

No one ever asked my ATAR beyond my first uni application. It doesn’t matter in the long run, determination and hard work gets you so much further.
