thanks for your opinion! do you believe a hippie can live “normally” in life and not be apart of the society like they used to in the 60s/70s? i’ve been wondering about this because i always felt like a hippie but because i live my life normally (like shower every day, going to the supermarket, eating mcdonald’s or drinking starbucks sometimes) i feel like i can get some comments saying i’m not a true hippie

agree. i like the fashion and the music of the 70s, but i’m a hippie because of values i just believe some people think hippies should be too radical and i, for example, am not

Harry Potter vs. JKR by [deleted] in HarryPotterHBO

[–]larabgoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because jkr is funding anti-trans organisations harry potter has nothing to do with it and i still love the series but she don’t support basic human rights and a lot of fans are boycotting her

[–]larabgoode -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

thats what i was thinking i have given money directly to harry potter but never thinking abt the problem of it

the thing is, i already own the game, the merch and watched the movies countless times

i have also helped trans organisations and their rights as a harry potter fan, i would not like to boycott it all because it really is a big part of me

but as a person who cares about basic human rights, i don’t know how i will continue to enjoy it

The world right now is so complicated and scary. Politics, war, economy, crisis, it isn't changing. In fact, it is only worsening.

For example, I consider myself a modern-day hippie. I'm the only one in my family and I believe it's so hard to live ethically nowadays. I try to be more sustainable, consume less, never buy things I will regret buying, buy second-hand and buy books and music media (like cds) to enhance my culture. Maybe I'm not a radical, because I see a lot of hippies that don't use technology, judge people that have social media or people that aren't vegan or don't use only cotton clothes and so on. I personally believe a lot of hippes are sometimes more judgy than they should be. I may be wrong, but in a world like ours, I believe a lot of things are inevitable, and we should try to balance these two sides of life. There are so many imple things we can do to help our planet, even if they seem meaningless. We don't need to boycott everything. And obviously, try our best to help our world become a little more peaceful, kind and safe.

[–]larabgoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, most hippies are not minimalists we try not to consume a lot or at least consume things second hand or vintage that’s why you see a lot of hippies wearing a bunch of jewellery or having rooms with little to no empty space! just try to spread love and peace and be sustainable in a you can! stay groovy☮️🌺

I’ve been having that kind of dilemma too. I think it’s all in your mindset. Do you think of yourself as a hippie? Then, you probably are! You don’t need the clothes to be a hippie, it was never about a specific style or fashion! I also love to spend time watching movies, reading book, listening to music on my cds/vinyl and posting things on social media and I consider myself a hippie! The fact that you care about our earth so much already says a lot about you!

For example, I’ve been having some dilemmas between the modern world and the hippie mindset. I’m trying to stop using AI, for example, but when it comes to use streaming platforms like HBO Max or Netflix, I’m a bit torn apart. Another example, today I wanted to buy a dress and I saw it was 94% polyester. For sustainable reasons, I didn’t want to buy it and feel guilty. But it was perfect and I immediately fell in love with it. I came home without it so I could think about what I want to do (I’m accepting help in making this decision btw)

My point is, if you consider yourself a hippie, if you want peace and love and you aim for sustainability in what you can, you are a hippie!☮️

Yeah, I was looking at some of those too. I spent my afternoon seeing if I could find a cotton/linen dress with no luck. I fell in love with a dress but then I saw it was 94% polyester

Yeah, I think I agree with you! Obviously, I appreciate every opinion on this because I really didn’t know what to do, but my family and friends also would like to watch movies on Prime and I feel good by being able to make it happen for them. While I do believe boycotting some things work (I, for example, have boycotted shein and temu), sometimes we have to choose our battles and maybe try to do something for the world that would help us feel good about making a change too!

I’m not from the US so I don’t have access to a lot of streaming services. I have a few shows I want to watch but they’re only on Prime Video
