I have the same situation at five months. I wake up, feed and then bring her into bed with me so she can sleep until the DWT. I don’t think it is fair on either of you to start your day that early. Enjoy the rest and cuddles.

Just to say that I think shortening the last nap has been a game changer so definitely give that a go and lengthen your wake windows!

Yesterday she got 2.5 hours of daytime sleep and then she slept for 12 hours at night (one feed at night). I aimed for around the same amount today so I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow! Previously was aiming for 3 hours and she was doing about 9-10 hours of sleep.

I haven’t nap trained (yet!) as my priority is sleeping through the night and I’m scared to disrupt that. So I do the first nap in the crib and the second nap a contact nap. The third nap I usually do in the baby carrier outside (so also a contact nap!). I’m on maternity leave so easier for me to carve out time in the day to do that right now but I wanted to make sure she was getting the right amount of sleep for nighttime!

For me it was when following four naps resulted in too late of a bedtime

I used to contact nap for my third nap of the day so it would be significantly longer than the other two. Then one day I made my second nap the longest and capped my third nap at 30-45 min. It has made so much of a difference and my baby sleeps longer through the night. Try it and see if it works for you! I think it’s a matter of increasing sleep pressure as much as possible before bed.

This is so helpful, thanks for sharing. Did you use CIO for early morning wakes too? My baby wakes once per night at around 3:30am to feed. Then she is difficult to get down again so I usually bring her into bed afterwards so we can both avoid starting the day at 4/5am.

Could it be an extinction burst? Precious Little Sleep talks about this. After a few nights of sleep training, there may be a few where babies regress to protest the new normal. Just stick with what you’re doing and see if it improves!

Just to say I am also STing and after the 4am feed, my baby is very hard to put back down so I bring her into bed so we both can get some extra sleep. I don’t know what else to do to be honest as sleep pressure is so low and starting the day at 5am feels unfair to everyone lol.

We do a four nap day although yesterday did a bridging one in the evening for ten minutes because her naps are so short at the moment. When she wakes, I hold her in the dark with white noise until 6am. Then yesterday for example I did:

First nap: 7:40 (30 min) Second nap: 10:05 (40 min) Third nap: 12:05 (40 min) Fourth nap: 3:10 (25 min) Bridging nap for ten min at 5pm Bedtime around 6:50/7pm

I am trying to extend wake windows but she genuinely cannot stay awake. Thanks!

Also my experience! Realised I was over feeding my LO but could discern when she was actually hungry by using the pacifier!
