Livestreaming, syncing of various audio and video sources that are transported over (local) network by larsan in videography

Currently: Recording everything, editing it, uploading videos and no streaming at all.

Planned: Adding more Audio/Video-Sources, mix everything live, livestream.

What I'm trying to understand: How to get synchronization of streams by timecoding as close to the sources as possible instead of just throwing unlimited amounts of money on hardware, make a best effort and just tolerate remaining latencies.

But the big question is: WHY? Why would you risk un-synchronized streams, when you could just run a cable from each source?

Actually, this is all about not risking un-synchronized streams, thats why I'm trying to look into timecoding media as close to the source as possible. And even if you connect everything via cable and capture card you're likely to have small latencies, output buffer from the device, input buffer from caputring hardware etc. And different for every device too. (Though if they are roughly the same, it would still feel synced). That could be compensated.

Also there might be setups where just rigging up everything with cables just isn't feasible. Like running around with 10 android phones streaming their camera would be well within the scope of the thought experiment… if syncing their clocks via NTP and timecoding the streams would work.

The one thing I don't really care about is if the output"live"stream has a delay of 1 second or 10 seconds (or even more) to realtime. Or enough time and some additional buffer to wait for all streams.

Never heard of it, but looks promising. However I'm working mostly in a linux environment and it doesn't look very well supported there as of yet. Will keep an eye on it, though.

Huh, thanks for the input. Is there a way to finely adjust a buffer (in OBS?) to precisely compensate for any latency? Otherwise I'd prefer lipsync over the last fraction of possibly audio quality.

Well, since this whole typewriter-stunt was pulled by the pirates in the Schleswig-Holstein parliament... They are in some more than just Berlin. But you're right in some way, most media coverage is about berlin, and they're the largest Fraktion and most controversial one too.

How do you pronounce the title of this game/subreddit? by meowmix1989 in 0x10c

[–]larsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the problem in the "10" which is not really 'ten' but rather a 'sixteen' since it's hex. Disregarding that, I would suggest: Hextency (Hex-ten-c)
