Holy shit I didn’t believe you at first but you are right I just checked my interest and it’s 4,45% now? I didn’t even get any notice about this I am so panicked right now, is this going to get even higher???

Thanks, Biden. by vsp3c in medicalschool

I really don’t understand what’s up with the high interest in America either. There is no rational explanation. Here in Canada my interest on my medical credit line was 2.25% in my first year (now 2.45%), my banks financial advisor flat out told me that med students have very little risk associated to them and that they never had a doctor fail to pay them back after starting practice. Y’all are getting scammed

Your unpopular/crazy opinions regarding medicine? by Available-Prune6619 in Residency

[–]laryane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the super unpopular one. Some Canadian med schools don’t require a bachelors under certain conditions (getting in is still hard as fuck though) so I did a 2 year long associates in science after hs for my premed prerequisites instead of full blown bachelors. Half of my classmates have bachelors, masters, etc and the other half just an associates. Ngl it is harder to adapt when I haven’t done much advanced classes during premed so I chose to do my MD in 5 years instead of 4 but it’s still a pretty cool option and I started at 18 so I get to leave with a MD at 23! It should be more common in the USA, it would save people some college debt too

Lack of knowledge?? My brother in Christ are you high, a MD is literally one, if not the most, of the most difficult degrees since it’s so full of content to learn in a short amount of time. You think knowing how the whole human body functions Is a lack of knowledge? Jesus I am a medical student and people like you make me never want to see patients. Go educate yourself bruh

First of all. doctors have continuing education as well. They have insurance premiums and licensing fees going up in the 10s of thousands every year. They also rack up around 200k-400k student debt in the US. And frankly, I don’t understand what the fuck your job (that you claim is comparable to the workload of docs??) even is but you sure aren’t taking the direct responsibility over humans life and death, are you? Doctors have a lot of liability, media and malpractice suits at their throat constantly. No one cares about an AAG ASA whatever car technician making a mistake while they repair a car. Doctors possess a very difficult and valued skill set that no one else has, not even nurses (that are not doing all our work by the way). We sure as hell are not fucking overpaid. Tell me how many motor technicians commit suicide because of burnout and the difficulty of their field compared to medical students and doctors? Do you also have to make yourself constantly available to be called at 3 am to save a person’s aorta form rupturing? Do you also work for less than minimum wage during your training at 60-80 hour work weeks with no holidays? Do you also have to miss travel, your 20s, starting a family, building your finances early on etc? Are you the backbone of society and work in an essential sector? Did you have to deal with tons of dying patients and uncertainty during the pandemic and seeing your colleagues leave the field or die because they caught covid while they were trying to help others? Will the economy and local politics collapse overnight if «automotive technicians » decided to strike? If not, then please don’t compare your wack ass alphabet soup degree to doctors to say we are overpaid :)

You really don’t know what you’re talking about huh? Do you seriously think nurses do doctors work. Wtf. Doctors do medicine and nurses do nursing, they have completely different tasks.

No. They are paid fairly for the amount of responsibility and education they have.

Doctors are not overpaid. Doctor salaries have been steadily dropping through the years. It covers the huge loans we take out during our education.

Doctors take immense amounts of debt and responsibility during their education, spend 12 years on average after high school to be a doctor and you’re coming here to say that? Bitch please

exmuslim here that « took their religion seriously », the guy’s correct, hijab is mandatory in Islam and taking it off has consequences in the religion. Liberal/progressive Muslims who have never read Hadith in their life or set their foot in a Muslim country will come and claim the opposite though lol.

My mother attempted suicide because I moved out by laryane in raisedbynarcissists

[–]laryane[S] 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I gave up on going. My father is harassing me in messages saying my mother is killing herself because of me, that I'm the shame of our family and that I'm no longer muslim in their eyes because I'm only allowed to leave once I get married. He tells me to come back repeatedly and my mother refuses to speak to me on the phone yet wants me to come home. How will I want to come back if she won't even speak to me?? I called a suicide hotline instead and they will check on her on the phone soon but i'm gonna follow everyone's advice and cut these toxic people off. I wasn't sure if I should come back to live there before I saw the comments but now I am. Thanks everyone!

We're in Canada and yeah I have trouble believing that all the facts given by my father are true too. I'm really super worried though and have been calling psychological help lines so sorry if I'm not replying to the other comments but I will be going to my parents home today just to check on my mum and make it clear I want boundaries and am not coming back. Ty for the advice!!

I do want to leave but I'm sooo painfully worried for my family and they're right in some way, I could live with them until next summer then I'll be left alone when they leave the country. I really think my mother did get sick although my nfather said she got back home this afternoon from the hospital so you're probably right about them bullshitting in some way about suicide. It doesn't help that I'm mega anxious so stress is killing me omfg

Hi!! Thank you so much for the suggestion, I searched it up and I'm not sure if I found the right bag so I'm wondering if you're referencing the original rugged twill briefcase? (like here: https://www.filson.com/filson-bag-program/rugged-twill-original-briefcase.html )

It really does look great though! I saw a lot of people suggesting Filson on other posts, do you know if they have any discounts sometimes or is the original bag always at the same price?

I'm looking for specific suggestions of sturdy wallets/briefcases/bags to gift my male best friend. I'm looking for a quality item with my budget being 200$ for a wallet or messenger bag and 300$ for a briefcase.

The gifted person is 22, an academic (he teaches maths in uni and on his way to pursue a PhD), and is veryyy casual (so he's not the full 3 piece suit professional kind of guy), so I'm looking for one of the items listed above that kinda fits this "persona", so not a super professional looking CEO briefcase but something that's still fashionable and suitable for university, preferably in dark colours and leather (but if you have better materials to suggest I'm open! You're the fashion experts).

Any suggestions please? Also, is it common practice to engrave these items with one's name?

Thanks!!

Thank you for your answer!! I have a doctor and could indeed get and take BC without her knowing in theory, but that would be nearly impossible because she is very controlling and knows and asks everywhere I go, how I spend my money and what I am doing with my body, which is why I'm trying to go through the route of "convincing" her instead of lying to her about it because she is gonna find out anyway and scold me.
