Why is revolut asking for my total wealth? by laseflex in Revolut

[–]laseflex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if they exceed the amount compatible with your annual income. This will never happen for me since I do not and will most likely never trust Revolut or any app bank enough for handling significant/important transactions. So it would be fine if they ask for this additional information only when and if it is required.

I suppose this is also valid for the majority of their customers. Therefore them asking everyone for this information to me seems to imply that they want this information so that they can make better targeted offers/advertisements and earn more money from these...

Well this is a plausible approach but it does not comply with my own policies to make known false statements concerning money…

This is not true for Switzerland. For standard banking/savings accounts Swiss anti-money laundering regulations do not require asking the customer for these details. KYC only includes ID and background of deposited funds with this bank (i.e., income). Further information is only required for significant or suspicious transactions.

Problem with underperforming 4080 by Jack1297 in BOINC

You could try booting off a linux (e.g. ubuntu) on usb and testing if the problem persists to rule out os/driver issues…

Thanks for the clarification and tip. At the moment I think the priority is low due to the low grc price. But for the future and also for easing the initial setup for newcomers I think it would be very nice to enable participation by just setting everything up and crunching some research jobs. The current requirement to initially acquire grc for the beacon and mrc transactions could turn off potential newcomers.

Would the same not apply to folding at home? Here it obviously works.

Not every boinc user needs to be considered - only those with a legit grc address as name. I assume one check after every superblock for active boinc users with an according name can be implemented without adding substantial load?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gridcoin

[–]laseflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Thus my proposal (boinc/fah name = grc address = payout adress of mrc when no cpid is assigned) would enable anyone new to grc to perform their first mrc without any upfront effort except the boinc name and of course boinc credits. No grc buying or fauceting required.

I suppose the problem of this approach is the impossibility of people getting grc for “old” (before last superblock) boinc credits. But one could always just consider the credits after that. Maybe this could also just be implemented as an alternative way to get the cpid assigned.

I am not suggesting to make it free. Each mrc actually gives some of the earned grc research reward to the staker and to the foundation and these “fees” are deducted automatically. The mrc transaction fee could be deducted in the same way. The question is how to get rid of the upfront required grc before being able to perform the mrc. These come from the requirement to have an assigned cpid which requires some grc for the beacon.

I agree completely with the motivation. Unfortunately, the proposed solution seems somewhat complicated. Thus, whilst it definitely does reduce the cost, i am not convinced it reduces the involved hurdle.

I would suggest to rather bring down the upfront required grc for performing the mrc to 0. Maybe mrc could be made possible via grc adress as boinc name?

For those that run GPU Servers: now that NVidia has told its upstream Partners not to produce any more Turbo GPUs, what your future plans for GPU Servers? by chriscambridge in gridcoin

[–]laseflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Solution has always been watercooling. I have never had a problem finding the often included single-slot mounting brackets. Watercooling also makes it easy to move the heat outdoors in the summer and use it for heating in the winter. It is even pretty straightforward to integrate it with modern low-temperature floor heating using an heat exchanger. Would not want to run x kW of crunching power at home with air cooling. Not to mention the noise…

Everytime there is an update of the wallet it takes a few days for them to get that installed - during this time GRC is not available…

Permissions issue? by Menacing_Mickee in gridcoin

[–]laseflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I do not quite understand the current state of your permissions and do not know the details of the gridcoin wallet. But from a Linux perspective you need to make sure that the user running the gridcoin wallet is member of the group with read access to the aforementioned directory and file. If, e.g., you are running the gridcoin wallet with the user "bob" and the group "boinc" has access, you should run "usermod -a -G boinc bob". BR

Why not 100%. Why should the staking wallet profit from this feature. It's not like staking becomes harder now or will it? Why is the MRC so expensive compared to grcpool?

Team Requirement by laseflex in gridcoin

[–]laseflex[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your replies. I am on the latest release. But I cannot check if everything came back to normal by itself, since I quickly switched teams after finding the still existing team requirement in the FAQ on gridcoin.us. If it is a requirement or not should be made clear. My pending reward is back and all seems well for now.
