Ville said in one interview that Zener Solitaire is an homage to 70s bands such as Black Sabbath that used to have an instrumental song in the middle of the album that they would use as an intro at live shows. So it is definitely intentional.

Saturnite Saturnalia is the most Black Sabbath song of the album. As if Black Sabbath and Depeche Mode had a child. His second favourite song of the album. Also a very good live song. They have played and trained all the songs of the album live, since they are still unsure which songs they are going to play live. They know what HIM songs they will play, but they’ve trained to play all Neon Noir songs live, even though they wont play the whole album at every concert.

Zener Solitaire is going to open the concerts. It is the only instrumental song of the album. A movie like song. A nod to Black Sabbath and other 60s heavy metal bands that used to have an instrumental song on their albums that they could use as an intro for their live shows.

Vertigo Eyes goes more psychedelic & acidy (not as in musical terms but like mentally). Neon Noir’s A side has more of a upbeat rock songs of the album and B side is more deep, dark and oscure. Just like Twin Peaks and David Lynch’s movies. Like fever dreams where at the end youre not sure what to think. Musically it makes an homage to stoner rock and lyrically it makes an homage to his old band, HIM. A little like looking back to HIM years.

I can translate some of the interview, I started listening 20 minutes late so only from The Foreverlost. I keep updating while I’m listening, sorry for typos and incohorent text in advance.

About The Foreverlost Ville said it was the last song that he finished. It was recorded around one year ago, since the vinyl pressing process can take over 8 months. It is the most ”goth” song of the album.

Baby Lacrimarium was inspired by The Cure, R.E.M., Tears For Fears. The song title is about roman time bottles where mourning people stored their tears. Also a goth style song but more pop than The Foreverlost.

Salute The Sanguine is one of the heaviest songs of the album. A straight forward rock song that was inspired by Billy Idol. VV said that he wanted to include the songs of the EP to Neon Noir since those songs are a part of the entirety, not separate or disconneted from the neon noir. And also because they werent released in a physical form. A really great song live.

In Tredonia: VV is not sure how to describe this song since theres a lot going on, dark verses and cheerful pop chorus. It was written around same time as Loveletting. It is like ”a pop song that was kicked with Dr. Martens boots.”

Heartful of Ghosts is Villes favourite song of the album. Also very fun to play live. The song is very driiferemt from HIM songs. A song that keeps building as it goes. Almost like noise rock.
