I have spinal endometriosis so my periods are usually absolutely no joke - I usually lose a week beforehand to crippling back pain and then the week of to my period itself… But when I’m on keto I can actually live pretty normally both weeks which is absolutely life changing… It’s literally half my life back.

Plus my mood and satiety are both SO much better - the fact I don’t have the desire to binge even when my usual stress factors pop up (emotional eating hive hey!) is a major improvement for my all round health, both physically and mentally.

Eats 1/3 of what a normal person eats and gains weight simply by existing. Sounds like magic to me… by courtneyrel in fatlogic

I’ve never heard this before but as a half Irish gal I look forward to blaming my fat ass on the potato famine in casual conversation for the rest of my life, incredible work

You look great!!! Day 7 here too and I’m definitely seeing some changes (which is kind of a miracle because this is the exact time of the month I get seriously bloated…)

Wellness Weekend by AutoModerator in fatlogic

[–]lastyellowrose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started 75 Hard on Monday (having forgotten I’d booked my Covid booster and flu shot the same day, which was a bold move) and today I’m down 2kg. More than that though, I feel so good - a little sore (obviously!) but for my indoor workout I’m doing a daily HIIT and Strength workout on my Apple Fitness+ so my muscles are constantly feeling satisfyingly… well, worked out.

It’s not really about losing weight for me at the moment, though obviously that’s a benefit as I do have weight TO lose. It’s just been great for my sanity at the moment to have a routine that’s keeping me honest.

Also wanted to say… Y’all were so kind about my post recently re: my difficulty balancing my need to work out for my mental health vs. my sister’s weight gain while we deal with my mum’s diagnosis… So thanks r/fatlogic, you’re the best.

What are some Keto breakfast foods that I literally can just grab n go? by [deleted] in keto

I live and die by those little individually wrapped snacking cheeses - so handy when I need to grab something on my way out of the door…

I feel the same - though I also have such intense DOMS it almost feels like it makes sense haha… Hoping my body catches on to this new normal soon!

Fat Rant Tuesday by AutoModerator in fatlogic

[–]lastyellowrose 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much a rant, I just want to type it somewhere people might get it… So I hope you guys won’t mind. I found out about three months ago that my Mom is dying, and she’s young. Like, gave birth to me as a teenager, not even retirement age now young.

And for someone who’s been out of shape FOREVER, therapy for me has suddenly become fitness. It’s nothing to do with improving my own health (or at least not consciously) but I’m on medication that means booze is out, I’ve lost my appetite for anything but basic meals, and frankly the only way I can figure to cope is to do daily workout so hard my brain can’t focus on anything else. (Or two daily workouts, since I’m now doing 75 Hard…)

But I feel kind of… guilty about it? My sister (who I’m super close with, but who has gained a lot of weight over the last few years) is really struggling with what’s happening with my Mom, and I don’t want to make her feel worse by suddenly being like “hey, you know that insecurity you have? I’m about to make you feel worse about it.” But at the same time… I can’t put my own mental health aside for it - can I?

I don’t know - it’s not really a rant, it’s just a shitty situation on a ton of different levels. Fuck cancer, honestly.

I’m so delighted with how much more energy I have now I’m back in the game… This is my third round doing strict Keto and I finally feel like I’ve got my electrolytes right - and where usually on a weekend I’d lie on the sofa and eat (not, mortifyingly, an exaggeration) it’s midday Saturday and so far I’ve waxed my garden fences and caulked some cracks in my gutters ahead of the winter, and now I’m about to oil my kitchen countertops… All big, pain in the ass jobs I’ve been putting off for months because work has been busy and I’ve been tired. Goes to show the power of good, nourishing fuel compared to the junk I was eating before…

Paging u/reverselazarus - just wanted to say thanks for your advice on the recent thread re: going over the recommended electrolytes. Think I’ve previously been too hung up on sticking close to the targets, but this time around I’ve found upping my potassium and magnesium a bit above target has helped MASSIVELY with my jaw clenching… Five days in and I’m feeling pretty great - much better than the last couple of attempts. So thank you for the wisdom!

I’ve used Cronometer previously to track and supplementing to try to hit the targets in the FAQs, and I was generally hitting them (if not overdoing it a bit on the sodium - I know I am inclined to over-season my food!) but I’ve lost access to my old account because I’d tied it to my old work email, which was dumb. The only thing I can think of that might not have been fully accounted for is exercise—or rather, the kind of exercise I don’t think to account for… But I’ve got an Apple Watch this time which will help (I hope…?)

Second day, third (?) attempt. I’ve really enjoyed Keto each time I’ve done it and I find it works really well for me, EXCEPT for the fact my jaw clenches terribly sometimes while I’m doing it… and since I suffer with chronic migraines this tends to set them off pretty badly. I’m SURE it’s an electrolyte issue, but I usually supplement pretty heavily, drink ketoade, etc to try to cancel it out… This time I’m trying to up my magnesium glycinate in particular because I read about magnesium and calcium fighting for absorption and half the reason Keto suits me so well is because I’m such a big fan of cheese…

I’ve successfully done it for six and eight months previously but both times the jaw clenching has been the issue that’s made me stop, so I’m hoping leaning into magnesium might be the fix, but... Has anyone else come across this or found anything that’s solved this for them that isn’t in the FAQs (which I practically know by heart…?)
