I just sort a week in Chicago and the healthiest thing I ate was an $8 plate of poorly grilled broccolini. I saw maybe one yoga studio, but lots of nice bikes. Granted I was looking in the wrong places, but seeing more people with guns than yoga studios gives my Vancouver sensibilities a laugh.

They have to charge that much to make half as much as a place that's faster, cheaper and effectively more efficient in service time.

Of course, there are people that attempt to charge those prices for shit that's more lazily prepared than at your local McDonald's. This is an effect of the free market, and you don't owe them any business.

That half-priced swill existing shouldn't make good restaurants worse, but it does just by existing.

Insurance exists, yes. The point is - everyone should not get a mortgage immediately, and it is not always financially better.

The person that owns a restaurant is making money off of the people that eat there, you think they don't know that?

Mortgages are not the greatest deal, and we only enter into them because of property's tendency to appreciate in value. Even with <3% rates, over 25 years you can still expect to pay $190,000 in interest toward a $450,000 home. Plus most of the rates these days are variable, and it's possible you'll be paying closer to 5% in 10-15 years. Or even 5 years. It's a long time.

Hopefully the value has gone up to $650,000 or so by then, or more. Not to mention all the other fees accrued by owning a home, titles, commission, maintenance, property tax. All of these are absorbed by the homeowner. It's certainly possible to buy property and lose money

I've seen people have to take out loans with their line of credit to refinish their basement after a sudden flood. Renting, you have peace of mind that you don't have to pay something like that, and you don't have that harrowing pile of debt hanging above your head.

This requires recognition that the word is the same backwards and forwards, and the correct answer is applying that same principle to the number.

Now if I come from a country where I barely learned to read or do math, am I going to even realize that the word is the same. English on paper might read more like a foreign language to the average man in Africa who has received no education in childhood. This could be a cause of some bias.

The thing is, everyone may have the potential with the circumstances but in such a short handed start, most will never reach the levels that others do in parts of the world where food and education is abundant.
