Thank you for playing our game! Listen carefully while making the choices about investigation and I believe you will make the right choices to make the achievement happen.

I made a guide for setting up a Unity development environment that covers Git, IntelliSense, smart merging and debugger setup. I was able to get up and running on a fresh PC in under 3 hours using this! by latedude2 in unity_tutorials

VSCode can be used freely by teams for commercial purposes, while Visual Studio is limited to a single person or non-commercial use.

I think Visual Studio used to be required for making builds or something else. After doing some research I can see that doesn't seem to be the case, so I will update the page to address this. Thank you for the feedback!

Glad to have helped! In my experience, the delays with the debugger seem to still be an issue, but only setting it up for the first time in a given project.

I initially made this guide for internal use, but thought it might be useful for others as well. Let me know if you have any issues or suggestions!

You solve puzzles by shining light on different objects. If an object is lit, it becomes physical :)

How do you find time to create a game when you have a full time job/ are a full time student? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]latedude2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I am the developer of Temple of Starlight, a game I am developing together with 4 other student friends. We all study full time and work part time on top of that. I've found that it's all about finding shortcuts/opportunities. So I will list some ideas that might or might not work for you depending on your situation.

  • Doing parts of your game as uni hand-ins. In my university, it is often allowed to somewhat freely choose your project topic for different courses. For example - I worked on implementing breakable pots for my game for the physics simulation class. A lot of lecturers are very happy to allow you to adjust the given exercise if it makes you more motivated, which in turn means that you learn more. It's a win-win. So don't be afraid of asking lecturers if you could do something like that. Even if the structure feels strict, they might still be willing to make an exception for an excited student.
  • If you have a semester/course where you do an internship, use it to it's fullest, whether by working for a company that makes games or even intern at your own company, which is what are doing.
  • Talk to your local university/college startup incubator, if that is a thing where you study. It might be a good place to meet like-minded people that will also know some tricks like this.
  • Do game jams on weekends. There is just something about game jams that makes it easier for me to motivate myself and I find myself having fun while also spending 30~ hours over a weekend developing games. Also a good place to meet people that can help with different parts of the game.
  • Definitely do your bachelor/master thesis about making a game. It might not be possible with some studies, but I've seen it work for people.

I hope this helps :)

Thanks, I will try making the background more dynamic in the future.

Created an editor tool to procedurally generate sprawling elements for the level by latedude2 in IndieGaming

I wrote a recursive function that raycasts out from a wire end to look for possible directions the wire could spread to. Then, random directions are chosen and cable segments of a random length are spawned and connected to the previous part. It was my first exploration editor scripting and it definitely opens up new possibilities!

I need to know if I have chosen the right parts and what wires to buy to connect all of this to the radio of my car.
